Fun Fact - there existed a mod/romhack of this NFS 4 called NFS High Stakes: Complete Edition: Simply - it has all region-locked and exclusive cars, and tracks. And this Edition - even have many fixes of the games. And more funny and importantly - creator of that mod/romhack - STILL updating this game.

The final tournament in this game is so hard, you race on 8 tracks and most of them have rainy weather or snow so they are all slippery and you can't tune your car in career mode

PC had all the tracks from Hot Pursuit, extra events in the career mode and the DLC cars. I usually agree that the console versions are better but with High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed, the PC versions really were better.

This game also features transmissions that has different amount of gears. 4 speed auto, 6 speed manual on the same car, its such a minor detail but a welcome one

I more or less rage quitted this game since I had a Corvette upgraded one step and then lost it in a pink slip race. I was so frustrated lost then my Jaguar XKR and only had my stinky Mercedes SLK left. Basically never touched the game afterwards. Good times :D

I played this game and in career mode I was baffled that you couldn’t restart a race. You had to live with your error and a pretty damaged car.

That's what made this game great! If you bet on a car and loose, you really loose your car and have to buy a new one without enough money :-) And yeah, you have to earn them again. That's what makes you incredibly serious about each race and scared before the bosses.

kind of think of it. In practice High Stakes damage repair system is realistic. Even if you drive carefully you still gonna have wear and tear for some extend. Sure it is tedious but has this system been in other NFS than this and Porche?

The best game of all NFS series. The best collection of cars at that year. THE BEST soundtrack. Still playing it today, still remembering every single track, every single corner and shortcut. I loved when fully upgraded Ferrari F40 was actually faster then McLaren F1. When you could turn on and off your lights and your dashboard was also lit. When you had actual damage system that year. When you could race day/night, dry/wet forwards/backwards/mirror track setup. THE BEST NFS E-V-E-R MADE

You are actually right. NFS: Porsche was released 1 year after High Stakes and it was made on the same graphics engine. Then the next one was Hot Pursuit 2

PS1 version shouldnt be even called High Stakes since the "stakes" part is only available on multiplayer. On PC you have to actually risk your car on career mode, beating an IA opponent.

The original version of the game is PS1, not PC.
