I had a Nissan Cube as a rental once. Only got 2 miles before transmission went out. Now I know why - TTC guys prob rented it before me.

Try using falcon wildpeak AT trail tires. I have them on my 2015 Kia soul with a 6 speed MT. And have done similar things with it and had no problems going up a slight hill with those tires.

I rode in my friend's brand new Kia Soul, and they are nicer than people think lol. We were going 85 mph on the freeway, and it rode extremely well. Now I'm thinking about getting one and take It on road trips.
