The big factor for flood/drought zones, in India, Africa, Australia, and the American Southwest, is farms & ranches building water-harvesting structures (swales & reservoirs) and nurturing trees in certain spaces, especially the tops of hills. They act as water towers and rain attractors. Building trenches & terraces on hillsides captures the water rolling downhill and limits erosion. Spending $1 billion on farm reservoirs could match the $3.5B effect of this dam. Together, they could recharge the ground water.
@KiranKumarBokkesam4 күн бұрын
that was also proposed and done and it has its own challenges
@chundurupraneethsai56352 күн бұрын
If the ground has been over recharged, it causes a load of catastrophes. The secondary target for this water is to divert the water to regional canals (which were not much discussed here) for agricultural and daily usage purposes. This project is essential to AP (my home state) because all projects upstream keep the best part for themselves, and whenever floods hit, they'll release the water downstream. That is the main cause, as we do not have a storage for this particular river. This excess water can be diverted to drought areas, which is a massive project that's happening already. We call it 'River Interlinking.'
@zunkbox4 күн бұрын
Being an Indian and from Andhra Pradesh, we consider the 'Polavaram Dam' as the Lifeline and the key to future prosperity. The dam's construction began in 2014 under the leadership of TDP Chief Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu Garu and was 85% completed. However, the subsequent YSRCP government, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, failed to complete the remaining work. Their negligence during their tenure resulted in significant damage to the diaphragm wall due to floods. Now that the TDP government is back, construction has resumed, and hopefully, it will be completed within the next four years. Once completed, the dam will not only irrigate lakhs of hectares of land across 4-5 states but also generate thousands of megawatts of power, significantly boosting agriculture and energy production which leads to the economic growth.

Amazing video.. as a guy who lives near polavaram side canals (canals that transfer water from Dam), the canals already were full of water even before they got connected to the river. Thanks to the monsoon rains. The only concern is the reservoir sinking existing small towns. Devipatnam and Bhupatipalem were already abandoned and sunken. Like atlantis. But the development this project can create is just crazy. It's not just a dam, but canals with 400km length were built from scratch and 600km were still pending.

Correction- CBN the so called visionary failed to understand the scale of the project and awarded contracts to companies Navayuga and Transstroy which do not have any prior record working on irrigation projects. Diaphragm wall built without completing the coffer dams. June 2019 is when the previous government came to power and June 2019 floods damaged the Diaphragm wall. Total messup by Chandhrababu Naidu. Lookup the Enforcement directorate case on Transstroy India owned by CBN's party MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao. Anways Kudos to CBN and his party and fanatic fans for their 24/7 propaganda to throw mud at opposition to coverup their incompetence.
