💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.
⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.
🚨 Azul's VIDEOS ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (Disclaimer) 🚨
This information is only provided as an informational resource and should not be viewed as investment advice or recommendations. To get professional financial advice from a fee-only financial advisor near you, please visit www.napfa.org.
The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.
This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.
This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.
Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

I like how you gave Sylvie the time to answer at length. Your interview style was very natural and really highlighted the person you were talking with, not yourself. A lot of interviewers could learn from you.

Highly believe in travel. I just retired last year at 56 years old. Fortunately, during the 2000's I had the opportunity to backpack all over the world having visited 56 countries over 10 years and then travel around the USA in my converted minivan from 2020 to 2023. I am kinda in that "Been there, done that" mood when it comes to travel. Currently, my retirement motivations are getting my body as fit and healthy as can be. Two goals for this year. Doing a marathon in late May, sub 2:55 and doing a 320 mile thru-hike in late September along Lake Superior to the Canadian border, the Superior Hiking Trail. Will be doing it with my niece. It's her turning 30 years old challenge.

This was a great interview. I enjoyed meeting a retiree we can relate to. I retired at 55, 10 years ago. The best decision of my life. I was made redundant, and I decided to not seek re-employment. A few years later my wife retired, and life is great. If I have a struggle, it is spending our money while we can enjoy it. I hope Sylvie has a fabulous journey. The downsizing is really appealing.

Great video. The best way to let go of the fear of traveling is gaining knowledge, like this video. Additionally, before you go, know the area customs, like when is their sabbath and what do they do, what scams to be aware of, and to get from point A to point B within the community. The more you understand, the less intimidating it is. Great video.

My original retirement plan was to retire at 67, work part-time, and save money. However, high prices for everything have severely affected my plan. I'm concerned if people who went through the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am having now. The stock market is worrying me as my income has decreased, and I fear I won't have enough savings for retirement since I can't contribute as much as before.

I’m 62 and still working full time. I do enjoy my work, it provides me with purpose and has secured my financial future. Most people are too eager to retire as early as possible. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. Well done Sylvie! Glad to see other women achieving their early retirement goals. I have retired at 55 myself in 2019, without a pension. I planned and saved and invested for a good while and then pulled the plug. I live off my investments after studying how to decumulate. I am doing the things I love most, contribute to society in different ways and keep much better care of myself than I need before. One thing for me that helped remove the fear of retiring was to do a couple of years of a dry run living on my retirement budget before leaving my job. I also have a very clear plan going forward in terms of income sources to tap and when along my retirement journey. 😊

Those on the fence ... take heed, you only have one life! You won't be on your death bed wishing you could go to work, fishing that project, check that last email. great interview and you make a great point few others will admit: Rentals are not really passive income....However, dividend investing doesn't meet inflation.... Your subject pulled out of mutual fund equities (up 55% over last two years) to dividend stocks which only go 3% to 5%... all while real inflation (not the bogus CPI the government uses) is still around 8%... I applaud her decision to cut loose. But, I struggle with using dividends stocks as a passive income.

Great vid as a great reminder to retire early. I retired at 58 - 18 months ago. I realised I could quit. Never looked back.
