I have one of those shite weeks mate nothing but shite jobs and then there’s always something goes wrong 😂 I bought stubby spline sockets this week absolute gold for me them! What I tend to do on glow plugs i use Deblock freeze spray on the top of the glow plug for 12 seconds. Then leave it for 10/15 seconds and they have always come out no problem touch wood 😂 Thanks Derek

Baz, get the engine right up to operating temperature before removing glow plugs, they will come out much easier. Thermal expansion of aluminium is about 3 X that of steel. Same with injectors.

The glow plugs in my old car had 200,000 miles on them when I went to replace them. Soaked them in WD40 penetrant for an hour after the car had been for a run. My thinking was the heat of the block would expand the ports where the glow plugs went in which would allow the WD40 to soak down the threads. Well three came out very easy but the last one, well it was like your one, all tight and squeaking. I was sure I’d snap it but some patience and working it back and forth and it eventually came out. Result! Just bought myself a new scan tool, a Top Don Artiag 800 Bluetooth. Looking forward to using it. Have a great weekend a Baz. David in Dublin, Ireland.

You’ll need a nice mug of TEA with them pies Baz… what time does BEN do the rounds with the trolley? 🤣 Well done mate. Not a mention fun glow plugs like. Unless been done before properly. I always test the electrical resistance of each plug. The highest resistance ones or the open circuit ones that’s failed are the hardest to remove. My obs. 👍🏻

@anthony34220 сағат бұрын

@bazmeredith20 сағат бұрын
It can be a myth, I've had greater success with a cold engine, when hot both components ie cylinder head and glow plug heat up together
@ChuckTurtle119 сағат бұрын
Realistically youd want the head to heat up and expand and the glow plug to stay cold which isnt really possible. I always do cold.
@simontist17 сағат бұрын
Aluminium expands more than steel so they "should" loosen a bit. Full operating temperature best. Also the engineers say to use a torque wrench when loosening them, look up the max torque limit for loosening (e.g. often it's about 3x the installation torque). EDIT: oh and if any are stuck, supposedly the best thing is to put some oil in there and drive the car as usual for a week, it'll work its way in. In theory. Then try loosening again
