She also converted from singles in 2014, after training along Daisuke at Kansai Univ. They know each other well, she has experience, and Daisuke is such a fast learner. I see so much potential in them, and great chemistry, too. BTW the reason Daisuke is competing at the Nationals for the last time is to put a firm period to his singles career and so his fans can bid farewell, which he could not do in 2014 and still regrets.

However, the music is in three parts, part one as a distinct part - wouldn't change it, part 2 and 3 are linked and are two halves of a theme, but the edit could be vastly improved in p2 and 3. That said, what they've created with it is phenomenal and would be hard to beat in any season. I'd love to have enough time on my hands to fix the music and give it back to them ready.

Daisuke was also so traumatized for that. This time he chose to continue his career as a single till Jan next year so that all of us could see his ending calmly in satisfaction.

The Knierims are a better pair than Cain and LeDuc and I need the scores to reflect that this season to stay sane. C/L did a good long program at US Nationals while the other teams were floundering and changing coaches, but that doesn't mean they need to be overscored every time out now. The skating was much better this week in Oberstdorf. Thank you for pointing out the issues with Marinaro's lifts, we don't hear enough discussions about the details of pairs. It was impressive, however, that they weren't fazed after hearing the big score for the Knierims' impressive skate, and they went out and nailed a beautiful program instead of try to protect the lead. It was a great pairs battle early in the season that I wasn't really expecting. Alexa and Chris look so much better, and their confidence is growing slowly but surely. Still some things to iron out, but many noticeable improvements and strong programs this year. The twist they did here is the best in the world.

Alexa and Chris look amazing and only simpletons focus mostly on the jumps in pairs. They are getting better, and the clean skates will come, you can't force it. The way they pair skate is high quality and big, with amplitude, speed, and explosive bursts of energy, which is not as easy to be clean as someone whose throws barely get off the ground. I too am not into Hallelujah, but Mariah's confidence has grown and she's getting that 3-3 around better. It's also good that she's doing it in the long now instead of just the 2A-3T. Overall, Nebelhorn was quite enjoyable this year.

On KMT, I do enjoy the free, costuming, concept...i think I may be able to identify Jonathan's issues. Like him, I adore Aliev. KMT is like the anti-Aliev. Where his substance seems to be made of quicksand, KMT seems to be made of clay. The music calls for a little more fluffy movement where KMT's movement quality is more suited to more gutteral music. Though she seems to love performing it in her face, and it may suit her emotionally (Sidenote, Sui also has the more "solid" substance and their programs last year suited that grounded feature so perfectly) LOVE the Fame program so far. The free is truly beautiful to me; love the shapes in the lifts, fluid movement. However, I find it much more accessible than much of modern dance. I thought initially of Chock and Bates exhibition years back at the start. I concur Frazier has improved. His lines were surprisingly good. Not into Denney/Frazier short. Alexa's dresses are beautiful this year. What did the North Korean girl have on top of her head? Was she supposed to be an angel?

The North Korean girl is South Korean. I believe you’re discussing Kim Ye-Lim. She was skating to Swan Lake. If you’re familiar with the ballet, then you’d understand the head accessory. She’s not necessarily an angel, but the character (the white swan) is supposed to be of great character.

So excited for Takahashi! Honestly, I find the poem with Papadakis and Cizeron to be very poor in...many levels ("That even the cracks that drew their faults between two opposing sides could not escape a fate that was always destined to be sealed, " yiiiiiikes Forest Blakk. No original imagery, beauty of sound, wordy for no reason, turgid.) Beyonce integrated poetry perfectly in the Lemonade film with Warsan Shire, so this is sooo disappointing. I definitely love the concept for ice dance. :( "If it's what you truly want ... I can wear her skin over mine. Her hair over mine. Her hands as gloves. Her teeth as confetti. Her scalp, a cap. Her sternum, my bedazzled cane. We can pose for a photograph, all three of us. Immortalized ... you and your perfect girl. I don't know when love became elusive. What I know is, no one I know has it. My father's arms around my mother's neck, fruit too ripe to eat. I think of lovers as trees ... growing to and from one another. Searching for the same light. Why can't you see me? Why can't you see me? Why can't you see me? Everyone else can."

Please see the light and see how much better then Knierims look than last season. Even their twist is now even more incredible. Why is Jonathan still bellyaching over a couple of leg kicks they tried last season? It's not a big deal, and skaters always change transitions. I'd rather they focus on an element than a leg kick. Their programs are great, I especially love the free skate, and I see a drastic difference in Components. Aliona and everyone else who has worked with them since then have collectively taken this team to another level. Their pair skating is so strong they don't have to be perfect, and it's good they're going at their own pace. Evan Perilstein Don’t say that. Mostly because it just seems like you’re jumping to conclusions. Look at Elizabet Turnsbaeva. Look at a Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. You should adopt Elizaveta’s attitude. In interviews, she finally admitted that she stopped caring about results and what people think; she started figuring out why she loves to skate and continues despite her ups and downs in her career. Elizabet probably has the same mentality.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron's spoken word program--they nailed it--loved watching them! But the poem sucks. No content really. I wish it were in a language I could not understand--then I could love it. I am terrified to hurt the author's feelings. But it doesn't stand alone--needs context.

I love the program, the music, and I think the poetry is okay. I think the poetry they use in spoken word can be pretty abstract anyway but it's the emotion behind it that usually pulls you in but this speaker didn't, he just spoke the words. Good comments, Dave. I just thought Chris Knierim did that move in the program you speak of great. There was no mistake. He’s improved so much since Dalilah. And I’ll take him over Brandon Frazier. For the Knierims, I might reorder the death spiral with the second triple, if they find that easier, which might allow them to rework that section and eliminate the pause while they wait for that one beat of music. The rest of the program is stunning, and I don’t know Jonathan is talking about with smoke breaks. I just see stunning, flowing pair skating.

I see the part you’re talking about, but I actually thought she got a bit off there, not him. Regardless, I think it’s a beautiful pairs program, different, and I’m just glad to see a real step forward from previous years. They look world class. I don’t need to see them doing Aliona types of transitions, I need them to be confident. Remember that one year Meagan talked about keeping the program not as complicated for the sake of consistency. D/R won Worlds that year. I’m not fond of that one pause, but I didn’t see it as a rest spot, they were just waiting for the beat of music. That part could be changed or reorganized.

@taliagrigorian3975 жыл бұрын
It's true. Alexa & Chris are far and away superior on all of the pair elements. The side by side elements are erratic for both teams, a little more so for Alexa & Chris. Ashley & Tim took advantage of what was a very chaotic and rough time in Alexa & Chris's lives last season, but now A & C look healthy and back to normal. They simply have better pair skating quality, and even without perfect jumps, they deserve to come out ahead on most occasions. And they do have better programs, the free especially.

These are the best free programs Kirsten & Michael and Alexa & Chris have ever had, and both teams were very impressive at Nebelhorn with room for improvement. Alexa & Chris are stronger on many of the elements, but less sure of themselves in the early going, especially with that new Raf triple toe technique which has me skeptical. I don't see anyone else doing a pattern into a toe that way, so I don't see the logic. The less movement on the entry, the less Chris will rush. I don't agree with Jonathan's assessment of the Canadians' program, it was excellent, and we must remember that pairs isn't ice dance and isn't as choreographically focused. It's also not fair to call the Americans' program very watered down transitionally just because they aren't doing the same exact transitions Aljona gave them that you still can't get over. Some of those transitions fouled up their elements, so they changed them for the sake of making the elements stronger, which is ultimately what gets you points. The goal is to get them more comfortable, not less. The program is a strong step up choreographically-- they are moving in a different way and there's room for growth. Those two pairs were the clear standouts of the event.

@mish098aimer I think a switch is ok. However, I think the idea that he can be so good in such a short time (and at his age) is unrealistic. I think he may not due pairs because it can be more straining on his body (and I suspect) a much higher injury risk.

Exactly. Their choreography is really excellent but they went for cheesy words that sound like some Forbes magazine inspirational quote of the day on a backdrop of lobby mood music. Unfortunately, after last year's equally disappointing music, I think it's time to accept that Cizeron just has rather teeny musical taste. Iy would have been such a great opportunity to skate to a real poem set to more sophisticated classical or contemporary classical music.

Nothing is universally loved, but Moore-Towers & Marinaro's free skate is a fantastic vehicle for them. And the Knierims' free skate has great potential. They can still make some adjustments, but it's beautiful and different from a typical US pairs program without giving them too much clutter that makes them uncomfortable. Benoit seems to be inspired somewhat by Savchenko & Massot and Sui & Han in his pairs work, and the Knierims have never looked better. They had several errors, but look closer to putting out a really solid skate than they have in a couple years. They left a really good impression here, a clear step up from last season. I find Denney & Frazier's return to Lion King music a little gimmicky. If you have to skate to a particular song to get people to notice you, something's wrong. I preferred Version 1's ending, although the beginning of Version 2 is stronger. But who doesn't like Circle of Life, and they are a stronger pair than Tarah & Danny.

Maybe Raf's methods need to be adjusted to better suit the skaters instead of using age as an excuse. Why are the Knierims doing that strange pattern into the 3Ts? Age-wise, they're in the middle for pair skating. They aren't Hao Zhang, Hongbo Zhao, John Baldwin, Deanna Stellato, or Aliona, who improved quite a bit in her mid 30s and got a much more consistent 3S. I know Raf thinks everyone who isn't a tween is old, but pairs is different and Alexa is only 28 and the most athletic pair girl on the ice. And Chris started so late he doesn't have the extra pounding on his body. They have both improved a lot in their later 20s and shouldn't see age as a barrier. Skaters of any age would have trouble adjusting to drastic technical changes. I hope they settle on a technique that works best for them.
@TheSkatingLesson5 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are equivalent?? Raf has a very severe technique that is very different-- it is more than just pattern. It would be difficult to adjust after learning a more traditional North American method for many years. It isn't good or bad...just different.
@jcaslove15 жыл бұрын
I was hoping you would touch on that technique in this episode. It looks overly complicated. I figure the less complicated the technique, the better. Just do a simple mohawk and eliminate the excess body movement on the entry that can throw you off. But Rafael has his own ideas.

What happened with Alena Kanysheva? Is she injured?
@rs-oy1jw5 жыл бұрын
Evan Perilstein Well im not that eteri stan but this is fake. Last year when Kostornaia got injured she got direct order from doctor to not skate until further notice and Danill interviewed she’s constantly trying to try jumping whenever coaches and mother are not watching her so they(coaching team and mother) had to stop her in urge. Plus about Kanysheva, her health problem actually started back then when she was competing at russian junior nationals last year when she was with Panova. They gave full break when Anna Shcher broke her legs and her mother reported that when her legs healed and Anna came back to ice rink coaches didnt rush to make her triple back. They instructed Anna to start her jumps only at off-ice about three weeks and when they felt she was okay to coming back to ice they instructed her to only stroke on the ice about a week and when it it looked fine they ordered her to only do single jump. So the process began all from there, Single jump to doubles, doubles to triples so that she doenst get further injury
@rs-oy1jw5 жыл бұрын
Evan Perilstein they Kept Kostornaya off the ice for one month for sure. She was apart from ice since two weeks before JWC 2018(February) until April. And she came back to ice when doctor gave her permission to go back but no jumps. end of the discussion.
@rs-oy1jw5 жыл бұрын
Evan Perilstein You see.. Her injury was “not about muscle damage”! it was only because her foot was scratched from her boots so they had to wait until her scrape(or scar?) to recover. that was the the reason doctor prohibited her from wearing her boots about one months. And the reason why doctor prohibited to jump when she came back to ice rink was she didnt exercised for long time so she has to slow down a bit. To start one by one. Alena came back to ice rink to feel the movement after her scar on her foot just like when Anna came back from her broken leg and only did stroking session for about some weeks. It’s called process. I tell you this only to refute you arguing Eteri team give a shit about skater’s recovery :)
@rs-oy1jw5 жыл бұрын
Evan Perilstein I saw that interview and she clearly said shd didnt report her injury to Eteri tut. And I am only clarifying Eteri is taking good care of Anna Alena and Sasha. As you well know 3 young girls are Eteri’s hope so she will worry about girls even more than we do. So dont be too dramatic. Lets not go there to Zhenya thing.
