True Yuzuru Hanyu fans also support other skaters achieving great things, because that is what also Yuzu wants, he wants progress in the sport he loves, even if he is not the one doing it. Toxic fans are in every fandom, Yuzu just has more fans than others. Stop using the term fanyu as a derogatory term!

I'm sorry, but no. Fanyus are the worst disease FS has seen in years. I have not seen fans of other skaters hate on their competitors the way fanyus do. Nathan practically stopped posting anything non-sponsored on his social media because of the hate he was constantly getting from them. They're doing the same to Shoma and Ilia now. They are the most toxic FS fandom I've ever seen. You can't go to Nathan's YT video and celebrate his greatness without a bunch of them coming at you telling you that he sucks. They worked hard to earn the term being used as derogatory. I fully recognize that there are Yuzuru fans who are not toxic, but I simply don't call them fanyus then.

@@Unfiltered494 what you said is true but only for the toxic subset of fanyus. Those are toxic people and you can find them in any community, society, country... being a fanyu is not what defines their poor character and behavior. Hanyu has millions of fans and what we see on sns are the most loudest and toxic ... like what... 2000, 3000 of them, right? You certainly don't see hundreds of thousands of such people. I can guarantee you, every popular skater has such "fans", just the number is proportional to the size of their fan base. Btw hanyu has received his fair share of slander too. There was booing, threats, defamations, wishing him injuries, mocking his illnesses, homophobic, racist remarks, bodyshaming... he doesn't have any sns account but it doesn't mean he doesn't have many haters. Btw i proudly call myself a fanyu (in the sense that he's my favorite skater), but i root for other skaters as well and hate "yuzu-only" fans.

He skated flawlessly at 2020 JNats, won by a huge margin and then he won again by a big margin in 2021 too with a perfect SP and a nearly perfect FS (the only mistake was on the 4A). By the way, it's JPN and JNats, not Jap which is a slur that Americans used for the Japanese when they dropped the atomic bomb on them in 1945.

The last time Hanyu skated clean in international competition was at GPF 2015. He managed to skate nearly clean at recent Japan Nationals because he only did Japan Nationals and no other competition. He is well-known for not having good stamina to last more than one competition in the whole season and also why he is a very inconsistent skater.

I honestly think Men and Women's GP will be just fine. There's enough skaters to at least fill the slots and enough great skaters to win medals with respectable performances. But the real issue will be to some extent dance, but really it's pairs. They didn't even have a full roster at worlds, so I'm wondering what that is going to look like.

@anthonydolio8118

@@queenredspecial Thank you for your reply, but I don't understand its meaning. Russia does bring a joylessness to the sport. The country's skaters skate as if their lives depend on their winning. They use aggressive nutritional techniques such as limiting food and water to very small amounts. And, they dope. Moreover, their coaches use very harsh, psychological tactics on their students. All of this is substantiated in writing and by interviews with former skaters. So I don't understand how this translates into everything is Russia's fault. Everything is not Russia's fault. But Russia does introduce a certain culture into the sport of skating that I find oppressive and joyless, and which is not there when they are absent. That is all I am saying. You may disagree with me, and that is okay, and it is your choice. We will just have to agree to disagree.
@queenredspecial

@@anthonydolio8118 thank you for your very thoughtful response, with which I largely agree. The sport has become joyless, and I lost interest maybe for good after the last Olympics. And the Russians, which were always my favourites due to their passion, artistry, and their country's commitment to athletic excellence, became very boring to me in the women's discipline, because of the lack of flow and artistry. But I blame the sport. The constant rules changes, many of which are instituted to prevent Russians from winning, made the sport hard to understand and not very entertaining, unless one knows everything about it. I do think Tutberidze inflicted a lot of damage on skating and on Russian skating, but I also think the exclusion of Russian athletes, (for political reasons - I'm cool with it for doping reasons,) is the wrong way to go. (I hate it when sport gets politicized.) Russians, whom currently everyone in the West hates for rational and irrational reasons, have been such a huge part of this sport, it's weird to cut them out altogether and be ok with it. My response to your original comment was too quick, and it was a response perhaps to the current anti-Russian mass hysteria we are experiencing (I'm in the US) and I apologize if I missed your point. Thanks again for your response, and I'm glad skating is joyful again. If I recover from the last olympics, I may tune in again.

One thing about Nathan Chen is that he has that gift of land jumps and hitting movements *precisely* on the beat. Looking at that video of him competing as a four year old, he had it even then. Nathan tried the 4A once which was not meant to be published, the footage was blurry and was recorded quite far away which implies it was filmed without Nathan's knowledge. Yuzu practiced the jump and tried it at open practices at competitions, then he went for it twice at the competition in front of thousands of people. Why are fanyu still not giving due credit? Ilia Malinin had said in an interview with TSL that he studied 4A attempts from Artur, Nathan and Hanyu and combined them into one. Before the cyber-bullying by fanyus, llia has said that Nathan's attempts are the closest since they trained at the same rink. Before llia's attempt, TSL guys and others have also mentioned Nathan's attempt is the closest. A fanyu has commented that llia's technique is different from Hanyu's, so how shameless for fanyu like you trying to claim llia's success. She shouldn’t have left Mishin in the first place, all after that was a lame attempt to complain. Liza had the guts and patience to wait through puberty and bad seasons, she trusted her coach and her body. Had she not left Mushin, we would have had a totally different narrative. All I've heard is that Tim and their boyfriend are moving to Chicago, so that sounds to me like he retired. This is a wild guess, but this past Worlds would have been their biggest chance of getting a world medal, and it just didn't happen. I imagine Tim was frustrated. I'm bummed, because I really like them as a team, I like their style. I can't imagine who else she could skate with. I actually think that if they had skated this season, they could have had another good chance to get a medal at Worlds next year. Even if China participates, they're only going to be allowed to send one pair.

I think they thought they would have a ton of show opportunities, and I don't know what they've been offered, but I'll bet it's not much. When they talk about Ilia and his fire and his hyperfocus on jumps, it reminds me so much of Sasha from the past few years. If he isn't careful he'll fall into the trap of having a really high technical score while leaving PCS behind. Unfortunately that was Sasha's downfall at Beijing and I hope Ilia doesn't go down the same path.

But were PCS really Sasha's downfall at Beijing? Because despite arguably leaving the components portion of skating behind, she was still awarded high component scores this season, regardless of whether she was deserving, which is why I think the way PCS is scored is a mess and is why I can't even directly fault an athlete for leaving it behind when they're being awarded for it, despite not necessarily being deserving, all because of the technical feats they can achieve jump-wise. Sasha had the third highest PCS in the free skate and the fourth highest in the short program at the Olympics (and in the SP, she was just one point shy of Kaori's PCS, who had the third highest mark in the SP, and she was two points shy in PCS of the highest PCS mark which was awarded to Kamila). Based on the way she was being scored in PCS, therefore, the reason she lost is because she fell on her triple axel in the short program, and because Anna got zero calls and crazy high GOE on her jumping passes in the free skate.
@alexisscudder3030
@alexisscudder3030 2 жыл бұрын
@@IsabellaVerandez Perhaps not her only downfall but it certainly contributed to her not getting the ogm. Had she had a higher PCS, maybe it would have been enough to push her past Anna's score considering she only needed a little over 4 points to beat her. Obviously landing the triple axel would have also helped her but having higher PCS in both the short and the free would have basically guaranteed her gold.

The field is completely open now without the Russian pairs and with Sui and Han taking a break and also who knows if Peng and Jin will be skating in the GP circuit, and I think it'll be interesting to see K/F go head to head with Miura/Kihara. Tennis and Russia are a mess right now. For the most part, Russians and Belarussians are allowed to compete, but only as individuals (no team competitions allowed) - just not under the flags of their countries. They aren't allowed to compete in England, including at Wimbledon, and the professional tennis organizations have responded by not awarding ranking points for Wimbledon. (But they will for smaller events in that country.) Interestingly, as a result of all this, a Russian player is expected to take over the top ranking in men's tennis after Wimbledon.

@@82gioccia Daniil Medvedev's ascendency to No. 1 is what I said it is - an interesting result of the mess in tennis. Just to be clear, though, no particular player is to blame for that mess - it is about the many groups that govern that sport and their inability to respond to the war in any united way. Imagine if each discipline in figure skating was governed by its own organization, with a separate group in charge of juniors and yet another in charge of each of the Grand Prix events, each free to make their own decisions about what they want to happen regarding their little section of the sport. For anyone unfamiliar with tennis, that's what they have, and those groups don't always work together. As a result, tennis has players competing without their flags being displayed at Roland Garros, but they won't be allowed to play at all in any of the tournaments coming up in England . . . but only one of those tournaments, the biggest one, has been punished by being stripped of ranking points. Yet if the Lawn Tennis Association's goal was not to highlight Russian/Belarussian players, that goal will fail the day after the tournament ends because the players' associations don't want individual players punished. We're just not seeing this kind of fighting on such a public scale in other sports right now.

@@krisfujimoto72 I think the problem he has is that he has no idea what to do with himself post figure skating. I can imagine that retiring for such athletes is particularly hard.

Honestly, as admirable as the Russians attempt to maintain their morale by holding all these competition is, I don't really understand how they're going to actually go through with all those plans considering the current state of their state finances, particularly if all the hose reports I'm reading recently of the Russians having to crowdfund supplies for their army...like surely any windfalls that may come their in the next months will be primarily be used for their defence (or rather offence in their case) operations over multiple sports competitions.

Russia is doing fine. What you get is fake news. Not only about the war but all across the board. It’s propaganda. Looking forward to the new season and competitions held in Russia. The Covid season was so much more exciting than GP season last year. So much pressure, drama, so many competitors and camps. But it’s from the viewer’s standpoint, from the athlete’s - of course they want international medals.

What "man with the young girl" are you referring to? I read a tweet from a woman who was absolutely certain she knew what the story was for everybody in China. I believe she mentioned the appendicitis, and she said that Sui & Han are taking two years off, but then they will be back. Even sadder that US athletes and some others are legally drugged using therapeutic excuse having imaginary disorders. Same rules and restrictions should be applied to every athlete, the allowed medication should be the same. Right now some countries have their national medication banned, while others with similar effect allowed. That should stop. Allowed or banned, same for everyone. Period.

@@sporeKAfan As an American, I can say that most American skating fans care more about promoting good skating/skaters than just promoting Team USA skaters for the sake of it. I went to 4CC when it took place in the US, and the American audience rooted more for Rika, Shoma, Kaori, Keegan, and Jin than our own US skaters. Though we definitely do root for our skaters when they do well like Nathan and Alysa. Also, our ice shows are also kinda boring compared to other countries. I went to Stars on Ice last month, and the stadium attendance was half full. The skaters skate beautifully, but they don’t really do anything new or as exciting as other countries do for their ice shows. Nathan didn’t even do any quads at SOI (which is totally fine, because his skating is still amazing).
