A K She did not give it milk though. She probably gave him an animal milk formula is my guess. If an animal is not thriving on a substitute animal milk formula then they may be lactose intolerant like this squirrel. It also happens in human babies and other animal babies. It is just pretty rare.
@orangewedges4 жыл бұрын
@dudedud Quite the contrary. Given that the differential diagnosis for an infant failing to thrive (human or otherwise) consists of quite a variety of conditions including malabsorption, chronic infection, allergies, immunodeficiency, GI issues, etc., the lady was indeed quite insightful to land on the correct diagnosis almost immediately on her first try and seemingly based on a hunch. Just because a baby is underweight and malnourished does not necessarily mean lactose intolerance is the most obvious underlying cause.

All animals and 70% of the humans are naturally lactose intolerant, because cow milk isn't designed for other babies than baby cows ! The squirrel would have no issue at all with this, because there is no cow milk in the trees and no squirrel would ever drink any.
@misstoujoursplus3 жыл бұрын
@Moon Heathen Most people do not understand that in the animal kingdom, no adult mammal drinks any milk. So if a squirrel is lactose intolerant, it's just natural. In the past, human babies were weaned from breast milk at the age of 3. Later, the human body is naturally intolerant of lactose because it doesn't need it anymore. Many people go on eating cow milk products because they like it, not because they need it. Some people get very sick, but they would never take cow milk for responsible. Until a recent periot, no african citizen drank any cow milk, because there were no cows and most of the children were breast fed. African people have issues, but not with bones or calcium.

Let’s take a moment of silence for all the baby squirrels who weren’t found by good boys Edit: let me explain this to all the people who have small brains. The dog is a good boy for finding a baby squirrel, therefor saving it’s life. Now imagine another squirrel, who fell out of his nest. There was no dog to rescue him, but luckily there was a dog to rescue this squirrel. Get it now? I’ve had to edit this comment more than you can imagine. *Go away if you are going to be a salty jerk, okay?*

Lets have a moment for all the possible lactose intolerant squirrels this one little guy produces. Theres a reason weakness doesnt last in the animal world. Introducing more weaknesses into the population of local squirrels is not a favour.
@creoshin90824 жыл бұрын
@Mycel The other option would have been to just keep him as a pet. That way he's still intact, and theres no chance of reproduction. Let the animal live its life to the fullest, and pass on, without tainting the gene pool.

What a sweet little boy squirrel 🐿 "Feeding him around the clock every 90 minutes was like pouring water through a colander - he didn't gain any weight!" Thank you for properly diagnosing him as lactose intolerant, otherwise he would have died. 💝

I am so glad his rescue mom discovered that Rocky was lactose intolerant and saved him and was so kind to release him back into the trees but I have a strong feeling that he will make regular visits to his foster Mom and maybe introduce her to his family, Hi Mom these are my kids and my girlfriend.
