Clarification for newer players and newcomers to the channel: Of course, the balance of power *is* important. Getting that yellow thing up in your favour is how the game determines that you win, after all. However, in 'Fall of the Samurai', and I assume other blackpowder-based Total War games, cannons are vastly misjudged in their killing potential and the maps are so delightfully crooked that any hill you deploy on and every clean line of sight can throw off the predictions immensly. It might sound like the Legend is contradicting himself halfway through a video, but what he means is that we, the players, should not be intimidated by the balance bar. It lies to us :) Cheers fellas!

3:20 Pretty much everything can be stopped by most trees. If the tree is close enough, it can prevent "line of fire" confirmation for the gun(s) to even shoot, even though the hit box isn't as huge as that check thinks and the shell would go well wide of the tree.

An interesting note about terrain is the difference between a plane and a changing gradient. In this battle, for much of it, some units are not firing, mostly because they are blocked by another unit despite being on a hill. It's because the hill gradient was largely constant, effectively becoming a flat plane so the angle of fire was still being drawn through units instead of over them. It's much better to place your infantry around the bottom of a hill, with lines moving higher up than at the top of the hill with lines getting lower. From the top of the hill, there may not be range to the change in gradient to allow your rearmost units to fire. But from the bottom of the hill, it's almost guaranteed. But the interesting thing is that it means that hills aren't always the best. A ditch can be absolutely amazing, letting units on a flat plane fire over one another, or even putting a melee unit in the ditch in front of your guns to prevent a melee charge. A ditch with a ridge behind is even better, letting you have 3 sets of units firing into 1 with proper placement.

I've had 6 armstrong guns in every army in my latest Saga campaign. Glorious. Just Glorious
@PipMan110111 ай бұрын
Yeah, this seems like a first campaign. It's really easy to have optimal recruitment in Shogun 2, as in blacksmith/firing range bonuses on all your units. Once you're at the point where you've hit realm divide and are using RIS infantry you really shouldn't be losing units ever anyway, so there's no need to panic recruit from a buddhist temple province. Just build up 5 doomstacks or so and steamroll the map.
@lukmaanpratomo686611 ай бұрын
@@PipMan1101 I agree with the Optimal Recruitment part. Also, the part that I really like when it comes to Balancing is that most - if not all - units in FOTS have their recruitment price increased since it's a lot easier to make money compared to base Shogun 2, especially gunpowder units. Buddhist Temple bonuses is useful if your army is mainly - or only - composed of "traditional" units supplemented by 2-4 artilleries, since that Buddhist Temple bonuses can make your melee units survive longer at getting shot before they break - and melee units are powerhouses in FOTS if they manage to get into your firing line (looking at you Shogutai).
