The lady beetle has nearly eliminated the native lady bugs
@CatMowpurrАй бұрын
All lady"bugs" are beetles. It's just a misnomer. The bugs in this video are completely different. You may be talking about the invasive Asian ladybugs and native ladybugs, but they are both beetles, and far more closely related to each other than they are to true bugs.

those lady beetles are swarming so bad here, even in the deep winter here in IL you will have some crawl out of hiding in your house, what a pest, they stink too. its a shame because they are kinda cute lol

Same here in Europe...

Asian ladybugs are a lot more likely to bite people, but even the common european ladybug does bite people very rarely.

It's always nice seeing some of your videos i dont watch all of them i used to be into microscopy but it gets pretty boring doing it alone. Id try and explain it to others but they would think its weird so i switched to photography lol

Can you make a video on how to centre the condenser on the swift sw 380t... Its not obvious where the screws are, i think its the 3 but others say its only 2 screws? Im so confused

It's a bit unfortunate to use the example of an Asian lady beetle, which is a type of ladybug (or ladybird, depending on the country) belonging to the Coccinellidae family which makes this slightly confusing. After all, bug/beetle is used as an interchangeable term but as you pointed out the so-called 'true bugs' are different. I wouldn't even call the Asian lady beetle an invasive species per se, "we" Europeans imported them from Asia in order to combat pests because they are 'more effective' at killing/eating aphids than their European counterparts. So they're not invasive, they're invited but no longer wanted... but they're here to stay. Apart from being a pretty good "eater of aphids", they're also more resilient against environmental factors and diseased so they're out-competing the native Ladybug/Ladybird and Ladybeetles. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen - with warmer winters and dry summers and autumns aphids are a pretty big problem, especially during late spring and early summer. Did you notice that the lady beetle in your video has a Laboulbeniales infection? You can see the fruiting body of the fungus appear as yellow strands from the rear part of its elytra. Looks like the Asian lady beetles are quite susceptible to that infection.

The bug looks like an assassin bug. Difficult to tell without seeing the mouth parts.
@Crispy_BeeАй бұрын
@donivanstryker1340 it's most likely Leptoglossus occidentalis, a truly invasive species known as the Western Conifer Seed Bug or Amerikanische Kiefernwanze. We have some very small assassin bugs in Austria but they are rarely found in peoples homes.

I recently got the swift sw380t, the condenser is not centered. There are no centering screws so the 3 screws that hold the cobdenser to the stage, what screw driver head is needed 😂
@MicrobehunterАй бұрын
It's a hexagonal wrench. The holes are wider than the screws so there is delibarately much "wiggle" room so that you can center it.
