“Level Genres” because they already exist in the community. Having them officially in the game would solve SO MANY problems and automatically solve the rating system. How? 1. First a level gets sorted into its genre: art, modern, traditional, story driven 2. Next, it gets a rating BASED ON the genre it is in, eg you could have mythic traditional levels, but also featured story driven levels, which may look better than traditional mythic, but have worse gameplay, and vice versa. This would give people a solid expectation of the level without having such a wide scope of what to expect

TLDR: He talks about adding a "Tag System" where levels are given a tag describing its style (e.g. Modern, Core). He mentions it's benefits in terms of searching levels that you are interested in (which I agree with) and also its potential to save the rate system (which spoiler alert it definitely wont). He says it should be the top priority for rob to add in order to save the game

I think the main issue is the fact that only RobTop can rate levels. This worked in 1.0, but today there's like 30k(if not even more) new uploads a day. So, are you sure only 10-20 of them are rateworthy and all the other mod sends are trash? Or maybe, just maybe it is possible that a system in which one person has to judge levels that around 3000 mods occasionally send to him while developing an updates is HORRENDOUS?

I didn't hear from you about multiple tags for one level. You seemed to just talk about tags that specify specific decoration styles. I think there should be more use cases for them; they should express aspects like gameplay style, the kind of lore that the level contains (if it has this), difficulty balance and other specific things: whether it's 3d (for real, like "3depth"; not the levels like "Geometrical Dominator"), generated by external tools (like Spu7nix levels), whether it has some AI generated things, whether it involves some randomization, it's room-based ("how to platformer"), etc...

I Love this idea, but I think that within these tags, Robtop could make the rating system similar to the demon rating system. The levels would default to star rate rather than epic to make it difficult for creators to get high ratings like mythic and legendary.

What if the community could rate levels 1-5 separately on both gameplay and visuals? Then, the scores would be averaged, and the level is given a rating based on that, where 1/5 = no feature, 3/5 = epic, and 5/5 = mythic. So a level with 2/5 visuals, but 4/5 gameplay would be rated epic.

I used to love searching for art/modern levels like white space and interim, which were very difficult to find amongst the hundreds of epic rated traditional levels. Now the reverse has happened, where I’ve seen so many AMAZING art levels in especially the NCS gauntlets, but I kinda wanna go back to the traditional levels but with 2.2 effects which is a niche that i guess hasn’t been explored yet (or maybe it has and the rating system just hasn’t done it a favour?), and now I struggle to find levels that dont have an “identity crisis” if you get what I mean. Yeah

YES!! I've only watched a few minutes in but I completely agree with you already. "Good" when it comes to art is completely subjective, so it's stupid to have just ONE person rating all of the levels, because if most of the community likes a level, but RobTop just happens to not like it, it won't get rated. Me personally, if I was the dev, I would rate it based on the community's opinions and whether they like it or not, not just what I myself think about it because that's stupid. Edit: Oh my GOD. I think the old level should update they're featured (I mean something like: A level was the BEST epic on 2.1. Now, on 2.2, it get's legendary or mithyc for example) because It feels like some 2.1 levels like What or Ultra Violence look like a legendary/mythic level, but they're epic because the update. simple answer: the rating is based on looking and not based on gameplay+looking, also, effort is taking in consideration (that 2.0ish level looks made in 3 hours, but it looks pretty fun). I think robtop just saws videos of the level (I prefer this to have a lot of good levels scaping his eyes) and that is the thing, a lot of levels are beautiful but a pain in the 4ss to play, like a lot of gauntlets levels, in a "video compilation" they look wonderful but to the avg player that actually has to beat them, isnt that fun and dont care about style so much. I keep playing gd and I beat a lot of 1.6,7,8,9 demons because how the "demon" difficulty is almost totally based on gameplay

for me the rating system should work like this for the difficulty gameplay (if its bad its usually hard so higher difficulty) + visuals that affect the gameplay (eg. pillars in the foreground) and for featured/epic etc how good the lvl looks in general without counting the gameplay

the reason levels look bad because its 2.0 style is because 2.0 just looks bad. if you want to make a good 2.0 level, you need to add features from later updates. now, listen, I'm not picky, i like ALL style levels, and im no creator either, but for a level to be good , [ it could be ANY style] but it cant be empty. even lobotomy style works. logodomy. but if the level needs to be EMPTY, you use gradients, make the level flow smoother, and make it feel clean. but the level that your playing at 6:46 is just empty. the creator couldve done better.

Sorry, but this would never happen. Because there are a lot of problems with it. For example, a person could bot a bunch of dislikes and bomb a level that's 100% rate worthy, or that small creators would almost never be able to take off because the recent tab has levels coming out every 10 seconds, or even that RobTop, who loves being involved in the community, now has nothing he can do to interact with the community outside of updates. Also, what the heck would moderators even do at that point? Sorry for being so negative, but if this was ever implemented, it would be a nightmare (No pun intended).

why don’t you categorize all the levels yourself then ask robtop. this is insane to ask for. genuine question, how do you expect that to even be programmed into the game with code how do you possibly categorize level styles . its not a thing. u can’t categorize certain blocks because every single block in the game can be used for a different style. it would only work for new levels getting created after the update and the creator would have to set the category. no one going through 41,000 levels not even a team of 1000 people and robtop has no where near that much mods. Easy, let that up to the level makers, when they post their levels they can categorize them, pretty much like how the difficulty request works, just make a pop up window asking you to check (✓) the category you feel like fits best for the level and that's about it. "but what about the already posted levels?", well that's easy as well, if the level has been already uploaded by a person, they can manually tag them as they please after uploading through a quick update without the need of verifying the level again (this ofc only works for the tags, if you modify the level you would have to verify it again, obviously) as for those creators who are gone... I don't see why mods couldn't tag these levels themselves, even if it might take a while, the job would eventually get done. Oh here's a suggestion to make the work less tiring: Tagging every single level from 1.9 and before as "traditional" by default. How? by tracking the level ID, so every level from before the 2.0 era will be automatically tagged, this will save a lot of time if you ask me Also, given how Rob has become an insane coding master given all the ridiculous stuff he has brought in this update, I hardly believe a pop-up window asking to tag a level under a limited set of options would be a ridiculous task
