In this video we go searching for a Brambling, which is a Russian, European, Scandinavian, and Asian bird species that has not been seen in the state of Utah for nearly 50 years!
Special thanks to the Smith family for opening up their home to allow so many birders to see this bird!

Thank you! Yeah, I think it's a good gesture. Especially because people often give up their personal space to accommodate birders.

Haha yeah Utah is pretty spread out. It was a 2 hour drive for me. And some people came from over 4 hours!

Brambling’s are found pretty much throughout northern Eurasia. The vagrant is more likely from the eastern (Asian/Siberian) part of its range. Bramblings are a very pretty bird, they are uncommon most years in the UK but have random irruptions that bring their numbers up significantly.

A great day, love your enthusiasm 😃 Bramblings are regular winter visitors to suitable areas of Somerset County in the UK. BTW unless my math is wrong 1984 to 2024 is 40 years?

I am a Birder in the UK. I love seeing Brambling as they're an underrated Beauty. We often get large numbers in Thetford Forest, especially in Lynford area which is good for Hawfinch and Crossbill. I've managed two American lifers this year so far that end up on the Eastern side of UK. A Northern Waterthrush and a Black Scoter (that took 3 attempts as it was with 1000s Common Scoter and a few dozen Velvet Scoter!) BTW you're doing a great channel and it's amazing that you're ticking off European Gems!

They are SO beautiful! That's amazing! I don't have either of those on my life list so you can confidently tell people you got to American lifers before an American haha. Thank you so much! I appreciate you saying that.

Congrats on seeing the brambling! One time I thought I saw a bare-throated tiger-heron in southeast Alabama, but it could've been a different heron. It has been seen in Texas, but it must have got way out of its normal range to end up here during the summer.
