Sounds awesome! All these great pre-amp style distortions aren’t just great for working musicians, but I honestly think are the future. My prediction: in ten years, preamp pedals into clean power amps and cabs/DIs will replace the traditional tube amp for most musicians. I bought a Westminster Effects 2716 after hearing your demo of it, Kyle, and downsized from a Marshall DSL to a Line 6 Catalyst as a clean platform. The 2716 and Catalyst honestly kick that DSLs butt into next Tuesday. Now I want one of these to go with it!

Hi Kyle, I own the SLO Mini, and yeah, the Mini is lacking Bass, a lot. Being an Audio Tech I modified mine. I and basically changed the input coupling caps on the first input stage. That lowered the high pass cutoff frequency. Giving more low-end. The tone stack was left alone. I also added a cap for a low pass at the input to the power amp to get rid of the harshness the Mini has and to slow the attack, way too much overshoot across the whole frequency range. Sound great now.

oh my GOD. i love Soldano and i run a mooer pre amp into the efx loop of any backline im performing and this would bloody give me the soldano sound in a pre amp pedal

Anybody ever try a Distortus Maximus? After trying dozens of the best high gain pedals out there, the DM sounds like a tube amp high gain channel. It really shines on a good pedal platform amp like a Hiwatt.

This is the distortion, you need a power amp to amplify it. The effects loop of an existing amp or a dedicated power amp pedal/rack unit will be necessary to put this through a speaker cab. If you're just playing into a PC interface, all you need is the pedal

I got one tried it through the front and effects loop and just sound like trash on the lower strings. Had like a muddy unclear tone to it. I’m returning mine unfortunately.

While I was excited about getting mine, the shine wore off after 2 weeks and I’ve decided to send mine back. My Diezel pedal has more fire than the SLO100 pedal and that’s running thru a SD power stage. Even though I boosted it with an OD pedal it still didn’t have the fire a real Soldano amp has which I once played thru at Bizarre Guitar.

Not many people have the resources or space to run a Slo100. It has the Soldano sound and will pass for covering a player that runs a 100 watt tube amp in massive venue's. In my early twenties I spent thousands of dollars and did many illegal activities to travel the United States watching Micheal Houser ripping his tele custom deluxe through a cranked Slo into a mesa loaded cab. He was on no planet the most talented guitarist but to this day 25 years later I've yet to hear I live tone that can touch his liquid lead tones. A cranked Slo at Redrocks is where dreams are put to rest.

5150 power amp section is very clean. I've tested a number of solid state amps side by side with 5150 (using Fractal amp sims). Definitely my preferred method to amplify, go figure. It adds a sag and squishiness that the solid states don't have (Orange Pedal Baby is close though, better than Seymour Duncan PS170 IMO). Very interested in the pedal. SLO is my favorite amp. Thanks for the review!

I actually slightly prefer it through the solid state poweramp. Both ways sound good. One of the better pedal preamps I’ve heard by far.

I have reviewed over 2200 pedals on my Blog Stomp Box Steals. In pure numbers the two biggest selling OD's in the last 10 years have been the Fulltone OCD and the Friedman BEOD. I predict this pedal will take their place as the OD to get and hang onto it like the 2 previous pedals. For those wanting to hear the pedal compared to the original 1987 amp literally bought new from Mike Soldano himself then check out the __Tone King__ review. Go to 13:00 on the video where he matches the pedals settings to match the amp to what would be a typical sound of the late 80's era.

@@belligerentamateur Hey Kyle, I just recently picked one of these up and when I plugged it in through my effects Loop for some reason wasn’t fully bypassing my preamp, and I still had to use my master volume. I use an orange cr120. And for some reason it’s still giving me kind of like a tubby compress sound rather than something more crisp like you had in this demo do you think it’s because it is a solid-state amp versus tube?

I don't think that has anything to do with it, I'm not sure why it would sound like that unless something in your signal chain is goofy. Thje master volume on the Orange must be attached to the power section if it's still working when you use the pedal into the FX loop @@Masterriffer

Sounds like I might be buying this. Perhaps you could do another vid with more harmonics? Pinch, artificial, whatever. Just wanna hear how the pedal responds to harmonics. Is it smooth and clean, or does it have that little bit of overtone like a real SLO Cheers Kyle. This might be a great option for me direct into my interface. Always loved that SLO sound but never liked the price lol.

remember, anyone can make any piece of gear sound either great or terrible. if a certain reviewer makes it sound good, see how they're running it and with what other gear they're running it with and see how it compares to what you would use the pedal with. If it's close, that should give you an idea of how the pedal would sound in your setup

I dont like the pedal . Imo sounds nothing like amp . And the pedal has one sound and it's not that good ,there are a lot better distortion pedals out there. At "lower" gain it just sounds the same but thin. Half way sounds ok . And anything over is way too woofy .

Am I the only one who thinks this pedal sounds like garbage? Its EQ shaping is super stuffy and thin sounding and the clipping sounds super compressed with no punch. Can't hear chordation well at all, zero articulation. It sounds like it's far away and around a corner from you.
