Why sign Justin Turner over resigning Brandon Belt? Both are limited in the field. Turner is 3 years older. His 89 OPS+ is WAY shy of Belt's 135+ last year. Belt's OPS+ last year was better than anything Turner has put up since 2018!

.832 OPS at home, .682 on the road, .778 OPS vs RH, .710 vs LH... But this year : Home/Road OPS split .787/885 Right/Left split: .772/989. He is having an excellent season, he's the perfect player for the Rockies to trade because he does have some value as a defender at both 3B & 2B, some power and he's not really expensive, making $12 million. Intriguing, I have always seen him as a guy who could be pitched to, a guy who won't beat you when it counts. A guy who you can get to chase. He's 29, he's probably peaked, players generally peak 26-28. If the Jays still think that this guy can help get them to win 8-10 wins more than losses over the next few months then ya, get him but if you give up a top prospect like Martinez I'd sooner see them cut Biggio or Turner and let the kid play 2nd or 3rd. Some of the guys are bashing down in Buffalo, don't know what it means, it's been a warm spring in the area, hitters do better the hotter it gets Does anyone see that the Rogers centre is now a pitchers park? Vladdy absolutely goes crazy in 2021 when they played all but a month in Dunedin and Buffalo but he's league average the rest of the time.

I have no opinion on what they SHOULD do. But I'll respond to a couple of your remarks. Are you old enough to remember 2015? That team in July was at .500, and almost everybody said the same thing you're saying here: there are too many holes, adds would be just throwing good money after bad. Yet, it turned out it was possible to make the necessary adds. I concede the farm is weaker today and we don't have a lot of reason to think RA can pull off what AA did, but in principle, the idea that there's lots of holes isn't an argument that a competitive team isn't possible. Also, they don't need a trade to make them one of the best teams in the league. If a couple well done trades can get them up into the top 10-15 teams in baseball they'll have a chance at a run. And at this point that's a promising option; many teams of recent years at that level have made deep, exciting playoff runs. As for rebuilding/retooling, this trade would be a long-term piece that, with a signing of say Bo, provides the core for a rapid reboot. There's no reason to assume Tiedemann, Martinez and Barger will amount to anything. If someone would take some combination of them for a piece like that, I'd take it in a heartbeat. (The real problem for the Jays is all the money they have sunk in Springer, an apparently declining talent.)

ryan McMahon is no saviour. he is a good 3B, no doubt, but he is no Ohtani or Soto. also, if they have to trade McMahon, they will have to give up some substantial talent. The woes of the jays go far beyond making a trade or 2 for a position player. they would need an all-star type LH outfielder, 2-3 more arms in the bullpen, a new manager, and cheeper beer.

Alek Manoah is the guy who smashed Taylor Ward's face in last season, and he needed facial reconstructive surgery. That might be a bit awkward. Ward has two arbitration years remaining after this one, so he would cost a lot. The Angels like cheap, controllable guys.

If the Jays are going to stay in the basement of th NL EAst for the rest of the year-which they give every indication of doing-why not just let them suck. Get rid of Springer and Turner in the off-season. Use the roughly $40 million million they won't have to pay for those two washed up has-beens a good left-hand hitting lead-off hitter and a slugger who doesn't strike out all the freaking time. Gurerro seems to have found i sroke a he plate, so keep him. @@douglasmcintyre3297 He is signed longer, and isn't a free agent until 2027. $25 million in 2025 and $25 million in 2026. No team is going to want to pay $50 million to have Springer in 2025 and 2026. A lot of that contract has to be eaten in order to unload it.
