Iowa deer hunting is great. I’m born and raised here. I’m an average hunter at best and have a 160” and 180” deer to my name, with many others in the 130-140” range. However, I feel like the way that hunting here is represented on KZbin is not a fair depiction of what most hunting here is like - especially if you don’t have access to intensively managed private land. There aren’t Booners behind every tree. Public land is relatively minimal and getting more crowded every year. Just my 2 cents for those who watch KZbin videos and maybe get the wrong idea. Enjoyed the content.

I’ve put in for Iowa bow the last 2 seasons and haven’t been drawn. And that’s in the western part of the state. Iowa sure did keep some of the money though. F’n crooks!

When I first started hunting in Iowa back in 1997, I drew a tag the first 4 years I applied. Then it started getting popular with the magazines and TV shows and now it takes 4 preference points at $63 each to draw a tag. My 2021 Iowa tag cost me a total of $917. It worked out for me. I took a 173 3/8" 12 pt.
