to use the bounce it is ok in normal sand or wet but when the sand is dry and hard ( in the summer ) using the bounce it means always thinning the ball

Great when the bunkers have soft sand like that . Our are like hard pan or solid after rain and dried out.. You cant get the club under the ball .. Chip out ??

Question for you Robbo.......my home course, as much as I love the place, hasn't added sand to the bunkers in years, and as a result a lot of them are very very hard and it's a nightmare to try to slide the club through the sand and play a proper bunker shot. What do you recommend for hard-packed "concrete" bunkers?

Most high handicappers have a sand wedge with their iron set. They have a lot of bounce so if you open the face are you not exposing the bounce too much and thinning it? You low handicappers and pro’s generally play much less bounce. Isn’t that why you guys always say “open the face!” Even bladed wedges can be bought with more bounce like 12 degrees.
