So long as a card is still a creature as it hits the graveyard, that card returns to your hand (animated lands, vehicles, ect). I used to run a deck (casual) around this card. In one of my most fun games I've ever played (three player) I gained infinite life, made one opponent draw infinite cards, and then lost, because I had already used my removal by that point and my other opponent played Spectral Cloak on his Ali from Cairo, and simply had 2 more cards in his library than me at that point.

Spectral Cloak on Ali from Cairo is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Games back then just hit different. Thanks for sharing your experience, I'll be chuckling about this the rest of the day!

i recognized the image of the card in thumbnail right away i mean, this card is an ancient relic of the distant past, like sure, i sleeved up an ER deck back when i was still a brand spanking noob as a kid, but it's an interesting stepping stone to look back on in hindsight i still have my playset, used it with playset of ornithopters and phyrexian walkers (zero cost creature just like ornithopter) and playset of ashnods altar, and later phyrexian altars as well for combo piece redundancy, i don't even remember what cards i used the infinite mana to combo out with, it ran swords to plowshares and disenchants though of course to that person in that post talking about Jester's Cap taking too long to use, if it's taking you too long to use then that person is a noob who sat there rummaging through opponents library humming and hawing about what to pull out i still have my playset of jesters cap, and i enjoyed playing them in decks i could fast mana ramp, but when you are sharp enough to be trying to play at even a semi competitive level, even for back then, then you would have no problem being quick and punctual about pulling out three chosen cards the trick to abusing jesters cap is being able to recur it from graveyard so you can keep using it over and over again, in this way, it helped you not have to think too hard about what to pull out, because anything you didn't pull out the first time you can look forward to pulling out the next time you hit them with it that guy who said it takes too long to use, that guy is a noob, wonder what that guy would think that thirty years later and there are people in the comments section of a video reviewing his thirty year old posts and calling him a noob haha kinda funny how part way through the video you look into the camera saying what kinda tool reviews thirty year old deck techs lol i can appreciate the self deprecating humour there i have a krovikan vampire somewhere in my bulk pile of cards i rarely go through, randam as hell to see that card get mentioned lmao Quinton Hoover also did the artwork for Illusions of Grandeur, a much more playable card that combo'd with Donate, aka Trix, from back when people named their decks after breakfast cereals, a deck i also used to play and still have my playsets of both it didn't take long for me to outgrow the ER combo deck tho, i found new delight in pairing Zur's Weirding with Words of Worship and I always just paid the two life to deny my opponent their draw step lmao while gaining more life back than the life it cost me to deny their draws lmao, people hated me for that one funny seeing how in that primer/deck list the guy talks about using Purelace to get around circle of protection red LOL that is some time capsule mid 90's sideboard tech right there haha damn son random as hell video to review a thirty year old card combo, but it's cool you actually investigated tournament results for any appearance of ER from back in the day, that is some legit sleuthing right there this card is an ancient relic of the distant past though, and even for its time it was janky as hell, like... super jank lol, because it's weird thinking back to those days back when i was still super noob at the game haha wow tiny little noob with his cute enduring renewal deck thinking it was the bees knees haha damn son what a noob, let me know when you git guud keke ty men go kidding aside though i have actually come a long way over the years though since then, playset of force of will's playset of mox diamonds playset of survival of the fittest playset of volcanic island, around a dozen or so dual lands, etc etc

It's always awesome to hear from someone with boots on the ground in the early days! I really appreciate your insights. Jester's cap always seemed like a fine card to me. I don't think it's too strong and there are cards that take way longer to resolve than just picking three cards from your opponents deck. Zur's Weirding is another card I plan to go into detail about at some point, it's another interesting card that has a lot that could be said about it! I just really like looking at what the game was like all those years ago and sharing what I found with anyone who's interested. Magic has so many stories of people learning and growing, it's fun to capture some of that in history, even if it's just in my silly little videos. Thanks for sharing some of your story and thanks for watching!

@@CitanulChronicler This is the first video of yours I've watched but just at a glance at your playlist of other videos it looks like you are carving out a unique niche of revisiting the early days of the game, which is pretty cool because you do it in a way that feels like you are reaching all the way back and bringing those early days forward and talking about them like they are recent events. That is pretty wild man. And you have a humble and modest approach to it too, like you are looking at those days with new and fresh eyes. Like even right down to and including the way you look into old tournament results the way you did in this video, if only briefly or in passing. Digging through old forum threads of people talking about the deck and primer and card list. That guy talking about using Purelace to get around circle of protection red. Like, that really truly is some actual authentic time capsule deck tech right there. Because that's really only the best way I can describe it. Time capsule. It's all really quite nostalgia inducing. And I expect that as your channel continues to grow and you gain more viewer exposure, that you will continue induce this kind of nostalgia in your viewers. I know it sounds somewhat antagonistic for me to be throwing around noob insults like "that guy is a noob" and "back when i was a tiny little noob," but that is all part and parcel of the nostalgia for me. There was a guy in my highschool playgroup who, upon losing a game, would stand up and say "brb noob!" as he proceeds to go to his locker to pull out some other deck and come back to the cafeteria lunch table for a rematch. This is the same guy who would sometimes also be like "I challenge you to duel!" when he wanted to play a game against you. So the antagonism is all kind of bundled in with my nostalgia for those days of mtg. It was from a place of silly fun, of being able to laugh at ourselves and our noob mistakes. Like that guy who thinks Jesters Cap is bad because he takes too long to play it, silly noob haha xD Yeah thinking some more on it I remember using a mixture of fireballs and disintegrates but I remember moving away from that because I felt like there's gotta be other more interesting things to do with infinite mana than just fireball opponent. Which is why I was drawing a blank because it was the other combo out options I was trying to remember exploring with. Which is why I moved away from ER combo because there are easier faster ways to win that way if I wanted throw really big fireballs around, namely Channel+Fireball. Could even honorable mention cards like Hatred here as well. ER combo has too many pieces to assemble, too slow and cumbersome. Even the mention of kobolds creatures is nostalgia inducing. Like it's wild seeing that deck list with all those kobolds in it haha damn

I appreciate the kind words. You pretty much hit the nail on the head my dude. I'm glad all the effort it took to track all this information down is being appreciated. The early days of magic were so... magical. I just want to show people how it was when it all started.

Necropotence was first viewed as a trash card. But it is one of the strongest cards ever printed.

This is true! Inquest magazine famously had Necropotence at 1 of 5 stars when they'd list all the cards and rate them. Magic was still very new at the time and as it was the first TCG, people didn't necessarily understand how powerful card advantage is and definitely didn't understand that life is a resource that only really matters when it hits zero. That being said, not everyone thought Necropotence was bad, but there were contributing factors. Black vise was restricted from Standard and Vintage in early 1996, and that opened the flood gates for Necropotence to begin dominating. Before that, Necro was good, for sure, but taking a damage for every card above 4 really hurt what necro was trying to do. It was definitely misunderstood, but there is more to the story than that. I appreciate you commenting!
