Those whips are pretty cool. You have to be careful that you don't hit it on a low object. It causes it to whip back and forth. i had a friend that had one on a van. He hit a low sign at a McDonalds drive through. A guy behind on a motorcycle got hit with it. The guy on the motorcycle ended up in the hospital with Van-Ariel disease. i know it was too tempting. Thanks for the video Sean! 73

Thanks. Cool antenna and I had one of those once and sold it out the back of my truck at a hamvention. But, I will wait on the review of the spike and adjustable antenna.

Is there a choke on the antenna? (Kidding!). I too used a stainless 102 whip in my CB days. Made some legendary contacts, and not just DX. Mine is extremely broadband. Still use it for 10 meters once in a while. Indestructible.

Nice Job ! Manc CB antennas' work just on 10 meters and 12 meters. using a ATU will help also their is outher tricks to tune. Like changing length of coax or using a piece of 75 OHM coax as a matching stub. With 1/4 wave ground mount the impedance likes to be 35 ohm. If willing to spend time with a VNA or analyzer that shows Z you can get it better . But under 2:1 is good enough for great contacts. Ground mount vertical has low take off angle for DX . The outher thing that helps many 1/4 wave radials on ground. Get more than full wave of copper on ground. You did that . Choking coax is a big help as well. If you had a couple of them springs you can tune 12 meter . Try a end fed 1/2 wave cut for 10 meter vertical with bunch of ground radials . would be a 49:1 UNUN . Works great I even done 5/8 wave with a 4:1 UNUN had better RX . I tested both at same time into a switch box. The 5/8 has about 3 S units better RX and a tad lower noise floor. Modeling shows not that much more gain. But went deeper into my test and found 4:1 UNUN was more efficient . Less loss in UNUN is more TX and RX . I was using same 50 FT POTA FLEX 7 coax . I have 2 sets . about 35 ft apart for antenna . same ground radials . 16 ,1/4 wave copper. 73 happy Thanks giveing from NY !

Always great comments and information! Thank you! Have a great one and happy holidays. I think the 104 inch is cool, but easier for 12m or multiband is a telescoping antenna OR that Chucktenna I recently showcased. 5/8 wave is GREAT, btw.I will try to get a video on that soon!

Really enjoyed this activation. The whip was cool, but I really enjoyed watching you handle the weak signals and calls that are difficult to understand. 73 and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks! I agree with you. It's good for people wanting to get into radio, to know you don't have to be perfect, and even if mistakes are made, they could be corrected. But also, someone can see this and say to themselves, "now i get why he asked for the call several times" and adapt the way they feel necessary. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sean, this is Pierre, I used a vice grip antenna amount with the same 102 inch whip with radius and a tuner and it works really good

Very cool story and video. It's hard to beat the 9ft stainless whip! Nice and wide bandwidth, great for 11m and 10m! Now, where is your 148GTL!?

Can someone take a dial calipers and measure the diameter of the rod? I'd like to try using some stainless whips to make some beam antennas for experiment sakes.
@danielrgusa14 күн бұрын
Depending on the size of your elements you can probably use some stainless steel TIG wire. Comes in 3’ lengths with diameters of 1/16” 1/8” and 3/32”.

Hello, I will do my best to grab the antenna out of the truck today and get a measurement for you
