Microtech is the absolute BOSS of variants. This new aluminum scaled version of the Ram Lok manual Amphibian creates a completely new feel to the knife. Like and subscribe!

The Microtech Amphibian is back and better than ever! This manual Amphibian iteration boasts Microtech's Ram-Lok crossbar lock, which offers ambidextrous operation via the X-Buttons on either side. Naturally, the Amphibian includes a reversible pocket clip to make this knife fully left- and right-hand friendly. The clip is distinct: milled titanium with some jimping that allows you to firmly grip the knife when it's in your pocket and draw it reliably. The real star of the show is the blade, of course. Made from Bohler M390MK with Microtech's excellent heat treat, you'll be slicing and dicing without any hiccups. If you're in the market for a big, USA-made, hard-use folder, the Amphibian is sure to please!

I like serrations too. As long as it isn't along the entire length of the cutting edge. So I like what they call "combo" blades. Partly plain edge, partly serrated. Best of both worlds.

especially on a bigger blade like this you have enough of a straight edge and good amount of serrations

As far as I know, MT started using 6061 alloy in Amphibian already at the end of 2023. My Amphibian was released on 10/2023 and the scales have a 7075 stamp, but the knife from 12/2023 has a 6061 stamp.

I picked up the same model with stone wash finish (and serrations of course) the other day and I absolutely love it. It had serious lock stick the first few days and I cut my finger while trying to close the knife but at this point it’s completely broken in and is for all intents and purposes, perfect.

Hey mate what's your opinion on aluminum vs g10 I'm really considering the aluminum however g10 is cheaper where I am in Australia so wondering if it's worth it for the aluminum

@brucespud3755 I usually go with g10 but the aluminum on the Amphibian is some of the best I've seen by far. I was really impressed. Either way it's a win. If it's gonna be used a lot. I would go g10. I think aluminum shows scratches more easily.

I have seen multiple descriptions in various dealers that its 7075 with the fluted versions of the Stitch and Amphibian. Just an FYI for the part number decode, I have a large spreadsheet with the info. 137RL-11APFL breaks down; 137 - Amphibian S/E blade RL - Ram-Lok 11 - Partial serrated (stonewashed finish blade / hardware) AP - Apocalyptic finishing of blade / hardware (used with stonewashed blade codes) FL - Fluted Aluminum scales Keep up the great work. I love my Stitch RL in APFL as well. 🤠👍

Serrations make perfect sense for several reasons:- 1) serrations cut fibrous material like no other edge, so for plastic cordage, natural fiber, paracord, etc. it is a good choice 2) serrations are best for most self defence knives...as most knife fights use slashing moves and serrations are best for slashing through cloth, leather, etc. 3) serrations stay sharp and cut longer than straight edged blades because the inner "scoops" of the serration is protected by the higher peaks 4) modern sharpening systems take the worry and fuss out of sharpening serrations, so the old cry that serrations were hard to sharpen is no longer valid And l'm sure you can add your own reasons why serrations make sense in every knife except bushcraft/carving knives.

I used to race BMX bikes & 6061 is softer and would bend first, where 7075 is harder so it would just snap. But that's not a problem for a knife handle lol 🤔
@joawit
@joawit Жыл бұрын
The biggest downside of 7075 isn’t machining. It contains more copper so its harder to get the anodization to look good. The surface can very easily become pourus.

I hate aluminum on a knife or a firearm. It reminds me of much harder times, carrying an M-16A1 rifle in triple canopy jungle in Vietnam in 1968. We didn't use rifle slings as they were too slow and noisy. The rifle was carried in s hand at the receiver. It wore the anodizing off of the aluminum, leaving shiny metal to reflect light to attract enemy attention. Aluminum on a weapon is the ultimate in cheesiness, in my considered opinion. ... To each his own. ... Nice video thanks. ... I'm awaiting a drop of a tan G10 Amphibian with a plain edge blade. The recurve sharpens easily on round ceramic rods.

@@edged_mindset Yeah I noticed that it almost has liners. The Stitch is just small area for the bearing plate, and then the rest is AL. They have internally milled the scales in diamond pattern to reduce that weight some I guess.

I love a mix of straight edge and serrations, but I think this one goes too far with serrations. Half and half is a little too much for me, but I love 1/4 serrations to start the cut with the rest straight edge to finish the cut. I probably will be an Amphibian eventually, but that in Carbon Fiber would be something I would stretch the budget to get.

A plain edge will have substantial hesitation, were as serrations within a torsional tolerance will cut with relative ease every time. You can test this theory by trying to cut cord, and measuring how many degrees it takes before breaking free. At the end of the day a smooth edge is serrated on microscopic level, a completely smooth edge would be to glassy. If you could imagine running the edge across a ceramic plate, zero resistance. But an imperfect edge will produce friction/grit like a chalk board.
