It's crazy how FighterZ characters used to be so simple and a bit samey, when later characters are just some of the craziest, coolest things in fighting games.

been playing this game since day 1 and put 1500+ hours into it, i think it's the opposite, they took away a lot of what made some characters unique and made everyone feel the same for the sake of "balance". i honestly think that despite buffing characters quite often, they dropped the ball on so many unique mechanics that it really doesn't matter who you play, the game loop is pretty much the same, and some characters have to work harder than others to play the game. after season 3.5 it just feels too homogenized. they really could have brought in so many different playstyles. i honestly blame the playerbase for complaining too much and always copying pro players' teams instead of exploring characters that weren't played as much... Sonicfox proved it around season 2 or 3 when they picked up Gotenks and showed how busted he was... it was just a matter of no one playing him prior to that point, then you started seeing him everywhere, many other examples like that, but it's been 2 years since i dropped this game and only watch others player it, so idk how the meta is like, but i expect it to be just about the same. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON LABCOAT 21 V1 for example: vegito could have been a chip damage character but they nerfed his unique blockstrings and dumbed down his gameplay cause the fanbase just wasn't exploring him properly, afraid that his damage is high and never gave him the chance to be the character he was designed to be initially. and i could say this about many other characters. like really the chip damage function exists but does so little that it might as well not exist (unless you use bardock 236S lmao). they also made so many characters' hard combos much easier to appeal to the lowest common denominator, when fighting games have always been about how much practice you put in, guess the babies complained too much about combos being hard. it just feels like a combo video simulator most of the time, and neutral in this game is atrociously simple but frustrating.
