you forget that the machine is set for a certain number of plays and then is forced to pay out under state law if it does NOT then it is illegal UNLESS the machines tension can not be adjusted to manipulate the customer and is in fact based on how skillful the player is in that case then it most likely doesnt have a setting to adjust pay out rate and it based on how skillful the player is this machine is obviously the type to have a set pay out rate that according to any state law MUST pay out after a certain amount and can NOT exceed over double the amount of the total item value inside the machine in some states meaning this machine is either a. broken or b. illegal and a ripoff

A skill crane is not something that pays out. I do agree that they should not be impossible, but I have never ever ever ever heard of adjustable 'payout' for a skill game.

cracklingice look it up its in every skill crane thats not skill based hence the name skill crane course most machines are less about skill and more about luck so the name isnt fitting on most anymore :P theres a a little dial/valve inside the machine that lets you adjust clamp pressure and pay out rate in the ones that are not skill based its mostly in the newer versions since i believe the 90s maybe even 80s just google it crane companies have been using it for years its the reason you see a crane clamp down harder sometimes when its ready to pay out and really lose on others even more so with crane games that are not winning plushies but even those can have pay out rates and youll still notice the clamp clamping down harder then any other time unless again its skill based and thus the strength cant be adjusted to be based on pay out only on how hard it grabs something aka leaving it to the skill of the player to get the prize

Oh, I just realized. The machine kept loosening up because the "winner music" would go off on every play. Meaning that the machine thought you won, the payout rate just kept resetting.

Indeed! However, that can be controlled by the owner of the machine. All they have to do is mess with the pressure plates. BUT! The machine could have been malfunctioning without malice from the owner.

It's usually not a pressure plate but a beam of light in the win chute. If the light bulb dies it might register a win with each play when in fact nothing was won. This particular machine actually has a special setting where it will drop every single prize (0% win rate) but that's only supposed to be used for diagnostic purposes. Probably the tech forgot to put it back to normal after testing the machine!

Modern claw machines have a panel that controls pretty much everything; the strength of the claw, the speed at which it moves, the drop and rise speed, and even to tighten the claw grip once every XX drops.

It’s not just that. I read somewhere that vendors could program the machine to where you can’t win. Inside the machine, there are some dials you turn to control the strength of the claw. A lot of these machines are rigged

I have a claw machine in my basement. They work on a solenoid and you can set them for 25, 50, 75 or 100 on the DPI pin settings. This means that every 25, 50, 75 or 100 cycles the claw holds the voltage after hitting the up position on the claw. All the other times it picks the prize up and then lets the voltage fall off after it hits the top of the claw. You can also set the voltage on the pick up as well. All in the numbers.

There's a claw machine in my town where the claw doesn't have and strength at all and if anything is heavier than a water bottle lid it forces the claw open. It's not stacked and you can't move the claw around at will, you get a vertical and horizontal move then it "picks up". And it slams into the wall shaking it out of payout range.

As a long time claw player. Some of them just can't be beat. Its the physics of it or something, I like the rubber tips. They are the reason you pick something up just long enough so you think you have a chance and then it falls almost back into place. When you play on one of these claw games it is in a place that no one ever sees that no one can ever win. The stuff they put in the just can't be picked up with a claw. Its smart marking, but kills the spirit of the game. I could go on for awhile. In short i agree the setup is designed to skrew you.

I have worked on newer machines of this type, and the programming tells the claw how much force to have based on ratios and how much money the machine has "made" once it makes a certain amount, the claw grip will increase but only on a couple plays and it resets to weak.

the prizes are smaller than the claw. and the line the claw is on is bumpy. that is so when i catches anything, it is sure to drop as it comes back over the bumpy line. unless it is an animal with suspenders or something odd to hold onto, it will drop every time.

Most of the objects are more in weight than the spring pressure on the claw and the claw arm is designed to be as jerky as possible to drop the item on the return. Your just very lucky if you win.

I know i done commented im at 2:12 and the game beside the one your playing is able to be beat because it is holding stuff that was what it made for. Looking at the inside of each case should tell you. in the one your playing the claw will always use its tips. No matter what you pick up in the one your playing it will be the tips holding it and they can't hold much more than their weight. A teddy bear expands and contracts and doesn't weigh much. Every item in your case weighs prob twice what any teddy bear weighs.

When someone says that the machine is rigged it's because they purposefully make the grip on the claw too weak so that they will pick it up and then immediately drop it. So next time you try a claw machine just observe and see if it will grip the toy or anything firmly or just slid off of it loosely.

Yes, when you set the solenoid strength to 100%... it will pick up your arm and NOT let go. I had to wrench my hand out of my machine at home and was worried it was going to get pulled up into the gears. So, the machine can pick anything up... they just turn it down.
