This is a pretty good spin on the multitasking lathe, but there where alot of companies making machines very similar to this in the 90's. The best design in my opinion is the ones that have a full 5 axis head with a tool changer and then an indexing turret on the back.
@littlejackalo53263 жыл бұрын
This is very unique. The mill turn machines were much bigger, and much more expensive. This is a lathe with live tooling. Two different types of machine. People buying these aren't able to buy the big mill turn machines. This machines had faster rapids than most machines too. We're there other machines as advanced and fast? Yes. Were they common? No.

Interesting that all the live tools run at the same time. I would understand all 3 live tools in the same row running at once but for all the live tools to run at once I can't say i've seen a machine like that before. Can't wait to see what you get up to with this crazy machine. I love the fact that you can use the same live tools vertical or horizontal because that would save you so much setup time not needing multiple live tool holders for face or OD work.

I’m pretty sure most turret lathes spin live tools at the same time. There’s only one motor to drive the live tools
@hdfanboy3 жыл бұрын
@@chadkrause6574 All our mazak lathes have live tooling and only the tool in the cutting position spins. All the other live tools on the turret never move. I know you can get live tool holders for our lathes that have 2-4 positions for like a drill, chamfer and tap and then they all rotate at the same time but the other live tools on the turrent remain stopped. @@angrydragonslayer indeed. You'd need a complex gearbox and/or clutches for that. It might not even be more efficient in the end. Much better to just have all spindles permanently driven by one motor.
