I can explain the wheel thing. It probs uses 4 sensors and 1 little rod. The rod will always either pass infront of one of the 4 sensors. North, South, East, West. 1, 2, 3, 4. It knows what direction you are going based on it's previous input through logic. (ask kan how memory bits work, I don't understand them). Basically. If you spin it to the right, it will count 1, 2, 3 ,4, 1, 2 but then if you spin it to the left from there it will then go 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 4. So in totally it will look like 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 4. When the order of the numbers change it knows you changed directions. This can all be achived with logic gates and 4 sensors per wheel. The rod itself would be hidden inside whatever the wheel is attacked to. The wheel is not attached to a hinge. It is attached to a big pipe piece inside the wall. On the other side of the wall is a block. That block is then attached to the hinge. On the side of the block is the rod. On the other side of the hinge is a wall. The 4 sensors (north south east and west) are built into that wall and are a color sensor with a 1 block distance. The rod is painted whatever color the sensors are set to (the color part doesn't matter and is unneeded, but it helps avoid accidently inputs given the tight space). @@homelikebrick42 Like I said, I'm having trouble storing it. I get how it works in theory. It's just the memory aspect that's messing with me. I'm used to programming, with conditional statements and events. Logic gates don't activate functions on events, instead they are always active. I found myself needing like 8 memory cels. It was getting very clunky.

MrBubz here, the one who made the escape room with LaVenVNR. I made those detectors, and yeah your explanations are quite accurate, except for the last part. It's not that complicated, you don't need colors. I'll leave a link to the rotation detector if you want to see how it works (actually no, because links get deleted in this comment section so just search this on the Steam workshop, hopefully you will find it: "Rotation Detector - 2 ways")

Those knobs are very easy. They basically work like optical encoders in real life robotics. Then they send a signal to the appropriate logic to sequence the move. kAN used to be a robotics engineer. He should know this...

by hitting the cylinders they can tell which way ur hitting it by using the same trick that a W S converter uses: a t pipe piece on the end of suspension that it picked up by sensors
