Just because it's not a bus comp it doesn't mean it can't be used as one. The SSL channel compressor plugin I've used has around 30ms of attack when not on the F. ATK setting which makes it good enough to be a simple master compressor. 30ms of attack is also one of the settings on the widely appreciated SSL bus compressor. The release has an appropriate range on both of these. The SSL Channel type plugins also have one great advantage - you can play the signal through an emulated microphone preamp to color the signal up, which can't be done on the regular bus compressor.
