Learned a lot on my prado 90. Lower ball joints don't just snap out without signs that its going bad. When you hear squeaks, creeks, whines when you turn and a clunk when you brake check the lbj. A vague steering that is reluctant to center is also a clue. Rubber boot torn and dry ball joint with metal on metal rubbing will make sound. I bought a used prado in 2016. Hearing those sounds i thought it was the arms and changed the control arm bushings only to have my lbj pop out on the go. Luckily it was in bad roads @ 40-50kmph. Drive shaft popped out too but the tyres dragged on the gravel on it's side walls smoothly without any damage to the vehicle. I plonked in a non-greasable ball joint with inner lubricated plastic bush. This ball joints system is not suitable for greasable types. I bought a sankie ones from japan and it still holds today. Go for the oem but whether oem or aftermaket a bad bj will sound the same before it pops.

Don't cheap out, cause quality parts are cheaper than cost of labour. Not to mention the reliability. Ideally, it would be great to purchase aftermarket heavy duty ball joints with grease fittings!!!! That would be an ideal alternative. Cheers, Phil

I snapped one of those bolts too doing my CV boots recently! Fortunately I'm a welder and happened to have a spare bolt handy that fit. Another good tip is to apply anti-sieze to all these bolts before screwing them back in so you don't have this drama again in the future.

As soon as I got my Prado at 207,000km, I replaced ball joints with genuine and rack ends straight away! So many disaster stories of wheels folding up

Pretty pointless video. Could have atleast gone through taking the joints out. Ball Joint puller? Fork? Hammer?
