Shepherd of 20 years here. We are also very cautious about heat lamps in our barn and lamb in below freezing temperatures in January. We cut off heat lamps at 24 hours when we do have to use them and have never lost a lamb to the cold because by then, they all know how to cuddle with Mom.

Congrats. I would suggest raising the heat lamp up. We once had a ewe situate herself under the lamp. Burnt a lovey black circle onto her back. Smelled like wool burning. Good job Hazel.

I REALLY, REALLY needed that!!!! 33 years and 1 month ago my two younguns died in a house fire, and today I was told about some mean things that happened at the funeral that I never knew happened because they had me so drugged up that I couldn't even find the casket without assistance. Congratulations! Love a black lamb. Today I gave my pregnant doe a hair cut on her back side. She is a semi long haired Nigerian Dwarf and rather hairy. I can’t lay her on her back like a sheep so trimming her udder didn’t go so well. It was hard to get under enough to see. Maybe once her udder really fills it will be easier. At least she is clipped at the back very well to keep any mess to a minimum. Can’t wait to see the next new lambs!

Loved this. And brought back a memory. When I had my daughter c-section 25 years ago and they pulled her out she cried just like a baby lamb. Back then they just took them out and away to their little station and wasn't able to even see her right away just heard her little voice baaing all the way to the station. Such a sweet sound.
