As a retired BR driver I would say nothing wrong with the crew driving that loco definitely not being thrashed misleading title
@kristinajendesen71116 ай бұрын
Also retired but used to driving slam doors, 442s, 158/159s, 170s & Disastros. I can't imagine what it's like to stop a steam hauled train with a vacuum brake. Especially approaching the stop blocks at a terminus.

@@kristinajendesen7111 hi it’s abit like stopping with auto brake on the slam door stock 👍🏻

Thrash, as in railfan speak of being driven to effect, not meaning badly. Hoping to see some ‘thrash’ at the GWSR steam gala tomorrow!
@MichealRandall-q2x6 ай бұрын
Sounded pretty well driven to me
@willf202276 ай бұрын
No 'thrashing' there. Its being driven well on a slightly rising gradient. Been linked up and allowed to run a bit :)

What's everyone's problem with the title? It's a well-known expression among train enthusiasts, meaning that we'll get some entertainment in the video. That's all.

Thank you! I'm glad someone understands 😊

A short but quintessential trip on the Wirksworth branch. The BR class 2 on the front has a GW whistle, a sound to gladden the heart!
@Shoddy1276 ай бұрын
Your title is very misleading as that engine was not being thrashed at all! There is a significant difference in an engine being driven hard & then being thrashed, the latter certainly not being the case here!
@neiltate63096 ай бұрын
Perhaps written by someone who is not a qualified engineman.

I don't know the route or the load but I wasn't alarmed by anything there. I drive steam on a heritage railway.

Not well written. Why capital all letters?

I don't get people's obsession with the title, I read that and just thought 'working it hard!'

I may have a video about trashing a loco, video soon! 🤣
@Geo461156 ай бұрын
It sounded normal and really not a 'thrash' nor 'trash', but just an enthusiastic crew, and observing the preserved lines speed limit of 25mph! Take it from me as an ex: BR fireman I know too well if an engine is being 'abused'. These BR Standard Class 2's were a cracking engine.
@arlosurgenor65886 ай бұрын
Full forward gear, like driving a car in first gear everywhere. Sounds good but not terribly economical on steam or coal.
@Geo461156 ай бұрын
@arlosurgenor6588 Precisely that... couldn't have put it better.

That's just standard loco driving. You should have seen some BR drivers in the 1960's

Click bait title.. No where near thrashing it.. Obviously too young to remember steam on BR.
