I am a big fan of no-date dive watch homages. I can't afford $9k to $12k anymore for a Sub, so I've 'changed things up' and I've been having great fun collecting Steinhart, Ginault, MKII, San Martin, and Baltany. I really like the look of the Davosa USA model. Thanks for the review!

You’re not wrong. There’s almost too many homage watches. The good thing is there’s also plenty of original designs out there also. Traska, Halios, Baltic, Lorier to name a few original design divers. My issue with Davosa isn’t the design, it’s the price. I have a Steinhart 39 red and it’s the same design, better dimensions, same movement, and excellent execution for a better price and the Steinhart Homages came out years before Davosa.

Lately all watch prices have seemed to go up. Are you noticing that?

@@adventureswithtime Yes sold a steinhart for nearly what i paid & in the money foe the Davosa GMT, i have quite of few Brietling Omega etc, found the professional 500m very high quality but the new prices are extreme but found not much in the at price point, but a good 2nd hand well cared for is always a good option.

You are spot on with your assessment Bob. But there are watches out there in this category that have a unique or, at least, semi-original, look. For example, Stowa Prodiver. Yes, some may argue that the bezel still resembles one of Squale’s. But the overall look makes this model stand out, imho.

Yes, one can find some unique watches if you look

Soo… what are some 1000 - 2000 Euro range watches *not* being Rolex or Omega copies? And ideally much more interesting looking than those, too? Is the Grande Diva by Davosa the only worthwhile mechanical watch for around 1000 Euro being just beautiful to look at, as long as you’re ok with the flood of synthetic deco stones? Is the Davosa Apnea Diver the most desirable convertible watch (from wristwatch to table clock) for its price right now? Is there an open case back alternative to the Ball Pocket Watch? What’s there to become really excited about when not having millions of Euro hoarded?

Yes, I do feel the same. There are so many Rolex homage watches to be had these days. I'm not saying that's really a bad thing but it does get awfully boring. I do own numerous Submariner homages/copies myself. My two favorite brands are San Martin and Cronos. Cronos has a nice faded blue to black dial Sub homage and they just recently came out with one with a real meteorite dial. San Martin recently came out with a Sub made of grade 5 Titanium. And of course all of these watches are very nicely made and priced.

Davosa a micro brand??
@adventureswithtimeАй бұрын
Depends how you define a micro brand.

I've never viewed the "dive watch" type as my favorite to begin with. The bezel tends to shrink the dial, (for the same diameter watch), and really only has limited usefulness. Give me a "GADA" sports watch, or a field watch instead. Having said that, it is possible to find unique and different dive watches among the micro-brands. I like, (and have purchased), the Direnzo Eclipse model. NOT a Submariner knock off, and quite nice looking (to me, anyway). But, apparently, the Submariner just sells. Not much we can do about that....except to strive to be different?

What does GADA mean or stand for?

@@adventureswithtime "Go Anywhere, Do Anything". Basically a sport watch that would work with both a suit and tie, or blue jeans and a t-shirt. If you Google "Best GADA watch", you'll see some interpretations of the type. They are generally NOT dive watches, (though some might argue), and to me, the classic affordable example would be a Tissot Gentleman, or higher end, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual.

No negative comments to you personally, Bob. However, nearly a thousand dollars for a homage dive watch when you can purchase a very decent grey market Longines, Oris or Tag Heuer for less!
