That’s amazing that the Chinese fell for it. As a Chinese speaker myself, i can say that wasn’t exactly the best mandarin; he pronounced the cantonese word for “fire/shoot” (玩火) instead of mandarin when he told them not shoot. He also made some grammatical errors & said “bu kai huo” (不開火) where it would be more grammatically correct if he was to says “bie kai huo” (別開火). He’s a lucky man the Chinese soldiers didn’t pick up on that. EDIT: Actually, “kai huo (開火)” is ok, it literally means “open fire” (i.e: typically you say if you were shooting cannons or something). If he was to have said “bie kai chang (別開槍)” meaning “don’t shoot (your gun)” colloquially would be better.

Why didn't he get the highest honour? Because his skin was yellow? His heroics were simply unbelievable and could have been out from the pages of a war novel.

I think his commander going nominate him for the M.o.H. but he was unfortunately K.I.A. before it could happen. The replacement commander probably didn't see him rise up through the Marines and like thus more prejudicial as according to the times.

He isn't a traitor, he was born in America so he has to serve America, if he tried to go back to China, he himself will get imprisoned and when he is returned, he will be continued being called a traitor by fellow family and Americans, it's a lose-lose situation.

People in the comments are actually calling him a traitor? Are you serious? He's American, him being able to speak a foreign language doesn't change that. I'm American and I'm learning a foreign language, what does that make me?

The Media This is equivalent to a black man supporting apartheid by killing other black. Asian americans get discriminated against to this day when it comes to jobs and education because of affirmative action.

Well if you are in a war, and use that language to confuse the enemy into thinking that you are one of them, then gunning them down in their confusion while their guard is down, then it makes you a war criminal....

***** Ass hole, everyone thinks that way (racial profiling) ,barring you when everyone discriminate you as an Asian! you say you dont do it, but I bet you subconsciously respect whites more than blacks for their past achievements, its not something you control, its a subconscious thing... Theres two thoughts, you treat your friends separately in a colour blind way, but most people profile strangers racially, its how it works, if its not like that there wouldn't be any discrimination, think about it.

***** Stop living in a bubble, the world is bigger than Canada, stop being so native, if tell me the growth of China doesn't do asians any good in cred? then you really are naive. When the world changes people's subconscious mind changes with it. 10 years a go, I was treated like dirt being an asian. Today because of our reputation abroad and at home its given us a better rep.
@HDsharp9 жыл бұрын
***** Stop your BS, you know what I mean, everyone has their own preconceptions about race, when you want to make friends its better to keep your stereotypes and preconceptions at bay, do you have a brain?? is your brain not flexible? lets get this straight, if there wasnt racism, people wouldn't judge you by your color but you know people do, in all aspects of life. Take the media, why the fuck are we restricted in the media?? because people in the arm chairs stereotype asians, we're not deemed bankable, people turn off due to their preconceptions about asians, the media is just black and white! its nearly an asian free zone!!!
@HDsharp9 жыл бұрын
***** Who cares? you mean you dont care about racism directed at asians? People that care make a difference. Who are you to say he didnt care, who are you to speculate? he may have even gone in the army to serve because he wanted to be the first asian to do it. You dont know what he really thinks.

He's an American, and he fought for his country. But I don't know what would the decendents and families of those KIA Chinese soldiers think about his action if they knew what this man had done in that battle. And also I would be curious about what his relatives in China would think about it too. Could be really interesting.
@zennoix99846 жыл бұрын
So what? Chinese soldiers killed Chinese soldiers during the Chinese civil war which ended around one year before the Korean war. What would the Chinese elders feel after they learned about their children killing each other. Btw if Taiwan and China were to fight each other, what will the people in Fujian feel? Because most people in Taiwan are Hokkien people, and they have relatives in Fujian as well. And also during the cultural revolution, the red guards who were pro communist fanatics sold out their elders for being too traditional and anti-maoist. Ideologies, nationalism, politics. These stuffs destroy families. Look at Singapore and Malaysia, there are Chinese people living in those countries. Singaporeans have relatives in Malaysia and Malaysians have relatives living in Singapore. But many of them in both sides view each other as adversaries. You thought about how the descendants of those Communist Chinese soldiers feel after learning about an Chinese American soldier repelling them off. Let me ask you, how will their ANCESTORS feel? Will they smile upon knowing who are the victors in the war?
