In my day I was able 2 shoot down object ball while both cue ball and object ball were both moving!!! I was about 17 yrs old . Started playing around 12 yrs old. I seriously doubt that there's anything you could teach me. I have also noticed that most all the so-- called professional players all use the same methods of shooting. Man I love the knowledge you gave. I've been on a table for over 19 years. I was featured in the newspaper at age 11 in churchville MD. Pool is my passion back in 2016 we had a flood down in Louisiana and I lost my sticks and pretty much gave up. I joined an organization called the Louisiana Cajun Navy and did mass boat rescues in houston Texas for hurricane Harvey in 2019. Now live in PA and I'm just getting back in to shooting and joined what's called a masters league. I would love to have one of these shirts to wear and shoot on league. I was a 7 in APA when I played back in 2014. Sleep to me is a big part of shooting pool because if I'm not well rested my game is trash. Also when I step to a table I instantly am able to clear my mind of everything and focus, and zone in what's in front of me, rather than what is going on in my life at the time. 😊

Hi Ron, I'd just like to share with you and your subscribers something that I've hit on that you and some other tubers have given me the idea of and that I've built upon to help my cueing. It's helped me enormously in less than a week at 2 hours per day. Not just my straight cueing but my game overall! What I do is a version of the mighty X but I put the cue and object ball a little further apart. Then I shoot 15 straight balls into the corner, first 15 stop shots, then 15 follow shots then 15 draw shots. I do this to every corner pocket which of course works out at 180 straight in shots in a row. The key to making this fun and challenging is to keep score each day. It takes 2 hours each day to complete but I'm not finding it boring at all. The boost to my potting and even position play has been clear. I played a match against a guy last night who generally beats me quite convincingly and the result was the other way around. It has also increased my confidence which we all know is key in this game. It really highlights what works with your cueing and what doesn't in a short space of time. Anyway, thanks again for all the huge amount of work you put into your videos, I thought you and your subscribers might like to know how well this works. P.S. love the shirt and keeping my fingers crossed!

I was recently recommended to read "Toughness Training For Sports" by James E. Loehr. Awesome book. One of the first things it talks about is what he calls "Ideal Performance State". I'm 63... being rested and just feeling good makes a big difference in how I play. I play on a Sunday night 9-ball league that played the summer session, (usually doesn't). I have a Sunday golf group I've been playing with for over 30 years and I won't be playing summer session anymore. Especially on really hot days I just can't do it... don't even want to be at pool. Lesson learned. You're also right about working out, I do a half hour to an hour of recumbent bike and rowing machine. Great cardio and the rowing machine supposedly works 80% of your muscles. Thanks for the videos.

In the 1970's I used to hustle pool at night. I'd sleep until 4 or 5 PM get some dinner and practice for an hour at home. I'd hit the gambling hot spots around 9 PM. Everybody shooting was usually tired and liquored up. Easy marks! Sleep depravation and alcohol are the downfall of even the best pool shooters along with illicit drugs. Long story short I finally got my "come up in's" by getting hit in the left jaw with a pool cue that broke my jaw. After that I was like Earl Strickland about gambling on pool. Never again! There are plenty of tournaments around almost every night of the week. Gambling on pool in sleazy surroundings is what gave pool a bad name in the past.

It's good that you mention this topic as some people might not be aware of this and how much it will impact their game. I think getting enough sleep and being healthy overall is so important, and not just for pool of course. If I play someone of equal skill, but I'm well rested and the other person is not, I'll probably make less mistakes and therefore have an edge. Same with the mental aspect of the game. There’s plenty to gain off the table to improve your performance on it. I'm a beginner and I occasionally bring this up when I talk to other players I meet. Ironically, one of the best 8 Ball matches I ever shot was at the end of a long tournament, around 12:30 A.M. I was dog tired, and shot nice and easy. But in general, it helps to be awake!
@ronthepoolstudent2 күн бұрын
@@garybkatz Thanks for sharing Gary. I will say this, there was one time when I stayed up all night and played a race to 9 in eight ball and defeated a strong well rested player 9-1. I was so mellow and relaxed and totally shocked at how well I played. This is so not the norm though.
@garybkatz2 күн бұрын
@@ronthepoolstudent True. As an aside, I was an APA 4 at the time, who had won only 40% of my matches before the tournament I mentioned. On day 2 of the tournament, I discovered the local APA operators had raised me to a 5! I objected and they said, "You needed only 6 innings last night to beat a 6. I replied, "So you're upping my skill level, based on 6 good innings, after I won only 40% of my regular season matches?" You gotta love the APA, lol!

Ron, you no longer play in leagues, correct? If so, how do you maintain a Fargo rating? Trying to figure out how to get into a singles only or some other league or competition that doesn't require such a big time commitment.

Ron ask a pro they will tell you its that B game that set those top 20 players from the rest of the field. Where you're aware you are not at your best and make the adjustments quick enough to stay in the game. It is that mental toughness that is hard to train. I have seen/known folks who resort to stimulants to stay sharp both legal and otherwise sadly in the end it makes them addicts and brittle pool players.
