This video is such a gem. I think the fastest way to learn front-end is to clone a website, I'm in my internship now doing clone website just in 1 month, I learn so much html, css, javascript, php and mysql. Also, learnt about frameworks and libraries. Imagine on day 1 of intern I was the guy searching for videos of what is Html5

So do you think as a beginner its good practice to do clones? And how do i start doing that without any knowledge?
@jadepup
@jadepup Жыл бұрын
i never understood the reason for using clones before. I always thought it was a better move to use an original "idea/app". Until I understood 1. its not about originality its about execution also, 2. if it's a good idea/app its not best to share that code.

This is so true. LISTEN to this piece of advice carefully guys. Always research the market before blindly diving into something somebody said so. A couple of years back this is what happened to me. I got mad at Joe for always promoting email development, I spent 6 months, developing an email portfolio, which nobody cared about. Neither from where I am nor from where I wanted to land an email dev role. I understood my mistake and rewatched his vdos when I realized my mistake because Joe explicitly says about US job market. Nothing against him since he lays out genuine advice and recommendations for juniors. I would have gotten hired if I was in US for sure.
@CodingPhase
@CodingPhase 11 ай бұрын
Yes this is why I tell people I focus on the U.S Market. You could open a company in the U.S LLC and then apply to the jobs and use your company as a way to get your contract. I have multiple students doing that now and they found success.

I think they should appreciate more of the weather app. Here are some reasons. Netflix uses filtering and if you don’t know weather app then you will not know to to filter each movie. But yes they are a must know skills but should build more on top of just weather app.

To the commenter like Brian A that is asking if you need to “reinvent the wheel”: If you have projects that everybody has, why would they hire you if anyone else can do what you’ve done? Show your competency by building something few or no other portfolio have. Don’t be mad you’re being asked to build a of unique projects, aka extra work where nobody will hold your hand. Being snarky about having to do extra work, because the one’s that will go the extra mile will eat your lunch.

It's so weird to bump into this comment out of nowhere. And this is where context is important for you and @CodingPhase I was early in my coding journey and I came across that video like a few years ago. The author was talking about projects that shouldn't be used in a portfolio because he sees them all the time. Fine, however I don't think he really gave any alternatives which was what I was looking out for. As I recall, the author didn't even reply with a clear answer and I just left it at that. Mind you if you are new to programming and you find yourself a bootcamp or self-paced online curriculum that includes you projects you can include on your portfolio, one of them being a weather app for example, what else is that newcomer supposed to think? And if this other guy doesn't clarify then how are you supposed to know that other portfolios do not have? Your answers are somewhat vague too. "Unique project?" That could be anything. And if you built it how do you know someone else hasn't? What exact amount of 'extra work' should someone put into their portfolio projects? Can it have to be small working concept, does it have to be grand? So that's why I asked these questions: for clarification. I wasn't 'mad' or 'snarky' as you say. I was getting information and direction. I think it's important for anyone learning to ask all the questions they please. If you are someone who gets impatient because someone is asking things for their own convenience then that is your problem not mine. I wouldn't want to work with or learn from such a person.

Usually I'd say this was useful, but the project that 'got him hired' is barely better than the weather app.

@@CodingPhase I have 1 year commercial experience and am now looking for a new role. I'm building my portfolio now hence looking at whats out there, but you criticising a weather app and then looking at a 1 page vanilla js website and saying thats better is misleading. There is absolutely 0 way that gets you a job in the UK.

@@abikyoukan2 Projects definitely help, but regardless you just have to keep applying and stay positive mate eventually u'll catch a break. You really only need 1 polished full stack project using the languages you're applying to and it should be fine if you can talk about it in an interview and pass any coding tests they send your way. I got a new job about 5 days after posting this so it's still possible.

How is it possible the first guy's portfolio projects are enough to get hired? They are really basic projects and people can build each of those for a couple of hours. Maybe he got hired like 10 years ago?

The thing is bro that you think every company is doing complex code. Theres a role for everyone not everyone needs to be the Michael Jordan of the team there is a need for support devs and that’s where you can get in as a jr dev.
