Choji achieved his goal, but found it didn't pay off like he expected. In confusion and disappointment, he started taking it out on others in pursuit of a bullshit new "goal." Togame knew it was wrong, knew he should have tried to stop it, but he admired Choji too much. To him, Choji is the sun that everyone relies on for light and joy, but the sun is starting to look pretty dark and nasty. He decided to be dark and nasty himself, so Choji could still look like the sun to everyone else. It's a lot of young men who are lost without a really good role model.

From a psychologist stand point, the main theme of a lot of the antagonists is guilt. From a togame point of view he is trying to preserve the only space where he felt like he belonged in his life, and with that intention, as wrong as it is he enables his friends toxic behavior, even tho he's not sure he's doing the right thing. On this episode we only see togame's point of view, there's no introspection on his friend yet, and is meant to make you doubt the villains intention too, he's not doing this to cause a change, be the baddest of them all or achieve a higher purpose, he just wants to keep things as they are with all he has. I will agree tho, choji's believes seem weak during this episode

From my interpretation, Choji was togame's first friend and they were happy before choji become the leader but choji had this little problem in his head, similar to Eren I think, he thinks he's so free that he can dictate that others be free against their will and togame realized this change and tried to change it by trying to make Choji go back to how he was before, not caring about what he himself wants to do as demonstrated in his last line in the episode,Because he was basically just doing everything for his friend who probably doesn't even consider him a friend anymore and now he's having this conflict of "what do I want to do now?",I hope it helped you understand, jo togame became one of my favorites in the anime because of this episode (sorry if there are spelling errors, English is not my main language)

Well, English is not my main language but here we go. I read the manga and I have some opinions about it, I actually really like this arc and Togame. Choji wanted to be strong, he wanted to be above everyone but he didn't know that with that would come the responsibilities of life, the responsibilities of representing something. When he realized this, when society dictated rules to him that he didn't know how to agree with, he wanted to "shape" society into something that he agreed with more since he was the strongest, he could impose these rules. Togame, having only Choji as his "family", as someone who is important to him and wanting to see him well, accepted the weight of being the villain of this society that Choji wanted to shape and dictate the rules while he could smile and find things fun.

There's a bit of a cultural difference to parse for these relationships. The type of devotion shown to these "team leaders" is much greater in Japanese society. Loyalty to a larger group is way more important than individuality. This push and pull of individuality vs collectiveness is explored a lot in the first 6 episodes. Togame was a loner. He didn't have any strong social ties in a culture that reviles those that don't fit in. So when Choji becomes his tie into a group, he becomes extremely important for Togame. To the point where getting back the old Choji is more important than retaining his individual code of honor.

Yeah. If I learned anything from Japanese pop culture (anime, manga, films) is that when they do some stuff they don't half-assing it. Whether if they're battling each other with a spin toys or sword fights, there are forms of 'devotion' in each activities. They are committed.

It's not too difficult to understand to some extent, imo. Choji becameTogame's first genuine connection, so when Choji began to change Togame's immediate reaction was to do whatever he could to try to get Choji to smile again. Admittedly, he definitely got lost in the sauce and they just devolved into whatever they are now, but the catalyst makes sense. The only thing that doesn't make sense yet is what happened to Choji to change him, but it hasn't shown anything about him yet. This part isn't even "bad writing", its pretty generic. A bad guy that became bad for what he thought was a good reason and/or for somebody else's sake is used all the time.

It's like the movie the Dark Knight. Harvey Dent (2FACE) was Gotham city's Hero, they called him their White Knight!! But when he became a murderer and a criminal! Batman knew if the people found out, Gotham would lose faith and further tear apart the people and their faith in the Justice system! So Batman told Gordon to tell the people he did all the crimes and he will be the villain, because he's the hero they deserve, but not the one they need! So he became the Dark Knight, so Harvey (2FACE) can still be the light the people trusted!! There you go!!

Interesting reaction. Personally, Togame became one of my favourite characters in the series after reading the manga. Choji and Togame's relationship is borderline abusive, so think of it like this. Oftentimes, it's easy to say to a person in an abusive relationship "why not just move on? they don't treat you well anymore". The thing is, in a perfect world where logic is the sole deciding factor, this is plausible. But not in ours. Humans are simply not creatures who can negate emotions in order to pursue logical action, especially instantaneously. Togame is a teenage boy who never once felt he belonged to a group. Until a smiling joyful Choji entered the picture to introduce Jo, finally, to the place he felt he belonged. In this situation it's not difficult to follow Togame's line of reasoning. "Choji was the first person who gave me a 'home', and if I just up and leave, then what happens to him? What about me? Do I end up without people I can truly call friends yet again? Am I going to be cast back into a bleak, dark and lonely world?". And so, faced with this harsh decision, he decided to do the only thing he could think of to keep the place he felt he belonged as well as the only person he could truly call a friend, he took the fall. In order for Shishitoren to not break from the inside, Choji needed to remain as the "sun". The ever smiling, bright leader with newfound nasty habits and a misguided mindset that the members could look up to. This is where Togame decided he needed to act as Choji's "darkness" or the "ugly" of shishitoren so they wouldn't see this side from choji. The thing is, Togame takes no joy in his actions. He absolutely despises the toxic environment shishitoren has turned to, but he also just has no idea on how to revert it back into the place he once called home. So he forced in upon himself to act as the necessary evil in the group in hopes one day choji will come around and find his own answers. Hopefully this clarified his reasoning, as even though it may be illogical, it certainly is not unrealistic.

Oh I can explain this cuz I reas the manga. So boom, basically, Choji's "freedom" that he speaks of is the freedom from the weight of responsibility that was placed on him as soon as he became the leader. Choji doesn’t know how to be a leader and it shows. It was thrust upon him and he didn't know how to handle his position because.....he's a kid. He believes that respect comes through strength and asserting your dominance and as the leader of a gang? If one of them is weak then all of them are. Choji looked at Umemiya and thought, "why is he so happy? Why does everybody love him? It must be because he's strong! So if I defeat him then maybe this will fill the void in my heart!" When no.....that's not it at all and Umemiya understands that completely. He still thinks that might makes right because he never had anybody show him the way. That's what Ume meant by "It must have been hard for you" Because he knows Choji was thrust into that position. One that he was never ready for in any sense of the word. That why he's so patient with him. He knows he's just a kid who hasn't learned his lesson yet. Furin has "Big Brothers" to show each other the way. Shistoren doesn’t. Furin is a family. Shistoren isn't a family. Choji doesn’t understand the concept of family and that's what Ume is going to teach him. He thought that Umemiya was simply at the top because he was the strongest. (Just like Sakura) Choji is what Sakura would have became if he didn't learn that it's not your strength that makes people want to follow you it's your heart. Who you are as a person. Sakura has constantly been told you'll never be at the top of Furin because you're alone and Choji never had anyone tell him that. In the case of Togame? He'd rather everyone see HIM as the bad guy instead of Choji (which is VERY stupid) But it's understandable, because he knows exactly who Choji is at his core and would rather take the heat until Choji comes back to himself, because he doesn’t want anyone to see his best friend for his worst qualities when he knows who he is at his best and this act that Choji's putting on isn't the real him whatsoever. Hope that helps!
@nitrokid
@nitrokid 28 күн бұрын
Satome didn't became 'evil' so Choji can smile. He did it for his people, the Shishitoren crew. He needs Choji to be the bubbly sunshine leader so the crew didn't lose morale. The fact that he actually hates bullies speak a lot. You must understand that in Japan (well actually, everywhere else too), when you decide to support someone you put faith in them, and support them in any way they can. Satome Jo sacrificed his image for Shishitoren because he is committed. To be a part of a movement or a community means a lot for a lot of people.

Something important to note: Current Togame looks cruel, but he never fight for fun. The only times he was having fun was when he could enjoy being in the social group with Shihitoren. In a way, it was all thanks to his first friend Shoji. Back then in the flashback, you can see that Shihitoren people all had respect with each other, they were devotees to power but it didn't imply being cruel to each other. For example, Shoji & Togame avenged one of the Shihitoren who got beaten by the Zinc team. -> So they respected each other and their relationship never included fear. What is the source of the issue? Shoji believes that becoming the strongest and being the freest = fun At that time, I believe Togame is stronger than Shoji, but unlike Shoji, he didn't care being the leader/strongest. What Togame wanted is that Shoji continue having fun. -> That's why Togame wanted to support him to get there. Then it happened but it turned out that Shoji wasn't having fun at all, he is immature and he doesn't really know what he wants. But Togame feared to leave his first friend and the first group he was part of, so he stayed and wanted to make himself the shadow so Shoji would be happy again as the "sun", one day. The problem is that since then, everyone are in fear of being kicked out of the group, fear reigns supreme and every new people who joins Shihitoren are insecure pieces of shit. When fear takes over, rationality and logic don't apply anymore especially in a group of teenagers. To me, if Togame was the leader instead of Shoji, Shihitoren would have never turned it like it. Shoji would still have fun and everyone would still have some respect for each other. But back to the topic, you can see that Sakura's words to Togame really hit him hard, especially when Sakura said: "Just change your group's name to The Bully Club" and "You chase around middle school kids". Even though bullies like to act strong they always usually act on insecurity and fear which totally reflect current Shihitoren's mentality. That's when Togame noticed that Shihitoren had deviated too far from what it originally was. And he then got angry at the 2 guys who bullied Furin's middle school boy for hiding the truth. That's why we can see that Togame is very conflicted to fight anymore, because he now understands that the "kick out the weak" rule has made Shishitoren like shit. And Bofurin was right to act in the first place. To conclude, even if Togame is physically stonger than Sakura, Sakura beat Togame in the mental fortitude department. Togame physically "won" the fight, but he betrayed his own values for his first friend and made Shishitoren worse than it was. Sakura "lost" the fight but won psychologically and stayed true to himself and Bofurin values. I won't be surprised if Togame will withdraw from the fight or maybe it will be a draw? Not a manga reader, it's just my thoughts on this episode :D But yeah, good reaction as usual, hope to see more!^^🔥

Togame desperately wanted to make Choji - the first friend that he really admired become happier (by making everyone in the team as strong as Choji, get rid of weak guys, which was, in fact, completely wrong and TOGAME DID UNDERSTAND THAT). By following this “ideal”, Choji would start beating the weaklings up, so Togame tried to alter his ego and did that for Choji instead, so that Choji wouldn’t be counted as evil.

@AwakeProductions! this is illogical definitely. But it still happens, since kids are illogical until like 24. Follow the story more, maybe some things will make sense. Honestly it didn't make sense to me either, but I guess the thing in Japan is, you chose your leader, so don't question him over and over. That takes away from the leader's position. So for Choji to be smiling and be with the people who he thinks are strong, Togame is doing the filtering of "weak" people. I don't understand since, if Choji only wants people as strong as him, he would 100% not be the leader anymore. Who wants a 5 yr old kid as their leader? Its because he's the strongest that he took the spot. So silly. Yet, this can happen.

I think it's a little okay to be confused. What i think both sides of this argument need to understand is that not everyone has the same line of reasoning as each other. Differences like that are part of the human experience. The reactors not at fault for not immediately clicking with Togame's mindset but it's also fair to say that a lot of us in the west come from a different culture, society and background than Togame and Choji so it's not automatically bad writing if we just can't fathom their motivations when others clearly had some idea of what is going on here. I think it would be good to just let the rest of this arc play out and if you still have no idea what was going on with Shishitoran than maybe you can say the writing is bad. That said as a manga reader who has finished this arc I feel it does a good job explaining how this gang devolved into the cesspit it turned into.

In other words, Togame does Choji's dirty work so that the leader remains clean and, maybe, have a change of mind. I understand him in that aspect and I might have done the same if he was a "family". Sure, it's toxic af and immature but so a huge portion of the humanity lol. As for Choji's mindset, there's no way to know, I'm sure it'll be explained in the leaders' fight. It sounds childish but let's see how it plays.

i never read the manga and I instantly understood LOL. calm down buddy this isn't some deep shit. Its a gang and to him its also his family. People do dumb shit to not lose their family. Countless people do horrible things to NOT lose that one thing they didnt wanna lose. And that one kid whos the leader just needs psychological help and never got it lol. Thats why his way of thinking is super duper childlike so his thought process instantly was something dumb and childish. Which now put the 2nd in command in that posisition.

If a lot of anime-only have the same reaction, I am genuinely concerned about their reading comprehension. I can understand being a little confused about Choji since we haven't gotten his POV and people could want more on why he snapped. But Togame's character was laid out very clearly this episode so idk why people would struggle to understand him. Bro did not seem to have friends/social connections, Choji brought him into Shishitoren which became an important social circle to him, he believed in Choji who embodied the philosophy of Shishitoren and wanted to preserve Choji's image in the gang and this space where he felt he belonged. He hoped the bright sunny Choji would return so he took the role of "bad guy" until that happens. Whether you like or dislike Togame is one thing but not understanding his character is very odd to me and then chalking it up to bad writing because of that is silly. None of this stuff was subtle this episode.

When I read the manga, I had the same questions, because it started at full speed, but along the way I got lost, with silly things, why?! There's no reason, it's just a guy doing the bidding of another spoiled guy, the last fight will bring more questions, I hope Wind Breaker returns to the same spirit as the beginning

Sakura has no buisness winning but will most likely win in the end because he is the MC. It's a shame because it would help the story more to let him loose and learn from it rather then him beating everyone he will fight in a real battle. The action looks nice in this anime but the story is simply generic and it has the luck that this sping season has so few good new animes that it's still one of the better ones.

This is his first serious fight in the whole series and u want him to lose to learn some lessons?? He will learn lessons from this fight regardless if he wins or loses, cause from what I'm seeing the whole point of these fights is to learn how to "have a conversation" through your punches.

he is gona win bc togame let him win not bc he is the MC thats an old excuse, he can easy crush sakura at this point of the story, later sakura will grow even more, is much complicated and next ep will reveal that , the real togame is a BEAST (when he is in your good side and help you instead to fight you, he is in the top10 most powerful in the whole story for a reason and his fight with sakura will open his eyes to go back the way he was)

I think a lot of people are confused about this stories plot. It isn’t about the mc getting stronger/better at fighting. He’s already a good fighter-the intro covers that. The point is the mc growing as a person/healing and finding real connections with others in this delinquent setting. Weather he wins or loses this fight doesn’t necessarily matter to the motives of this plot line

To be honest I agree that the writing isn't really landing quite well. Though, writing-wise, I think that this episode was still better than the last one. Mainly because I feel like Togame's character was written to be marginally more believable(?) than Sako's. I understand the theme and the ideas surrounding Togame's character, but the execution is just so... bad? I think it's because the dialogue is so straightforward and dry that it almost comes across annoyingly shallow. Particularly with Choji. I like the elements of Jo's backstory, but the storyTELLING isn't great.

That's why this kinda show is not for female, cuz their never gonna understand how this kinda show worked, not antagonizing any female here, but that's the fact, this a delinquent high school story, that probably not common in the west, ur west logic is not work here, if u wanna watch this type of story switch up ur logic to eastern logic especially Japanese logic, also their still teenager, this is where their try to find their true self, and usually lost and never found "home", that's a logic of a teenager u never understand if u don't dive deep and try become them, if u still understand this well, this type of show is not for u

Dude, sorry but you're just a clown. Not only a clown but a misogynistic douche. Expand your world because you NEED it. You are obsolete.

why you asked? because choji said something shit to him? that's why i said, if they're really best duo, i don't want my best duo give a shit talk like that. i would just talk shit back or leave instead of following his bullshit. also punching and punishing the other members just because they're weak? just like choji did? i don't want that kind of influence. you guys talk like you love getting influence by someone. if you love getting manipulated then sure, if its me, im just gonna talk shit back and make him WAKE UP, why do i have to change? that's why is not realistic. you can't let your friend just do that, wake him up instead of following his mindset.
