By his logic, there should be pretty much no samples with less than a quarter the carbon 14 by proportion and absolutely none with an eighth (or something like that, I'm not calculating the exact probability for this nonsense), if the Earth _was_ only 6,000 years old. The reason they use Carbon 14 to "debunk" is because they _know_ they are lying and that those they're lying to wrong think about that part, they'll only hear the bit that supposedly disproves Earth being really old and not the bit that also disproves the Earth being 6,000 years old by their _own_ logic. Also the guy in the video didn't even bring up _how_ Carbon 14 "disproves" the age of the Earth, he simply explained why we can't just it for earlier than 100,000 years ago lol.

Mary Schweitzer does not own the rights to the interpretation of what she found. It is perfectly normal in science to argue interpretations. And it is perfectly legitimate to argue that there is no way that organic material can remain undecayed for millions of years. There is no science that can explain it. Even if she has found that iron can preserve for 2 years (or even 50 years) this in no way proves it can do so for millions of years. Natural radiation from underground sources would destroy organic remains over time. Million year old organic material is an extraordinary claim.
@ilmt
@ilmt 5 күн бұрын
@gusolsthoorn1002 Yes, the interpretation can be argued, sure. But 2 little things : 1) The 'tissue' was not in 'raw' state, it's not steak ready to be barbecued, it too, similarly to the bones, was fossilized - simply put it was turned to stone, but the structure of the tissue was preserved 2) Apologists often try to use Mary's name to support their own interpretation and even more to claim that she found as I stated above a 'raw meat'. Yes 'soft tissue' is used often to describe what was found, but it's not description of of the state in which she found it, it's just medical term to distinguish basically bones and everything else.

Yep. But for some reason, this kind of inconsistencies in pseudoscientists reasoning are the hardest to catch. Take flerfs for example, who keep insisting, that you can´t see earth curvature from very high altitudes. It is one thing, that that is factually wrong, but the other, that you would see a curvature of the edge, if you looked down on a round disk. Even if their weird understanding of physics was correct and the horizon was just an effect of perspective, you would still get that horizon at equal distance in all directions - and thus perceived curvature again. In my mind, those things are more interesting, because they demonstrate, that those people are not just wrong about something and a little stubborn. They are not interested in a consistent model of reality and perhaps even lack a concept of such a thing.

@@WitchidWitchid There are over 100 soft tissue sample from dinosaur bones to date. Dr. Schweitzer was the first but there have been many more since. Some of those who find these remains recognize that this presents a huge problem for the idea that dinosaurs are millions of years old. Everything we know about science, which she herself admitted, points to these being just like modern tissues. If they were found in anything other than dinosaurs, say wooly mammoth, nobody would be too bothered but as soon as dinosaurs were mentioned, science is thrown out the window, and of course, organic material can last millions of years.

And even if they've heard of C14 dating, they don't understand how it works. They don't know about background beta radiation which is why careless, uncontrolled measurements appear to find C14 in things like diamonds and coal. They don't know that C14 is accurate to between 20 and 50 thousand years, which alone is enough to discredit a 6000 year old earth. They don't know how *_all_* the different dating techniques cross verify each other in a systematic, consistent way. They don't know that putting error bars on measurements doesn't mean you're guessing. Ignorance and incredulity writ large.

@AlexanderNash
@AlexanderNash Ай бұрын
First of all you probably shouldn't be swayed by ONE piece of evidence. I'm confident in the findings of science because they are consistent with thousands of pieces of evidence and built from the ground up as a consistent model. Second of all, I think it's short sighted to say "if you can't convince the other person in the debate then what is the point" well actually it matters because maybe they convinced someone who is watching the debate?
@adamusher468
@adamusher468 Ай бұрын
@AlexanderNash you misunderstand my main point. It is whether they feel they could ever be persuaded. Some people, particularly with faith positions, are so sure they are right, they couldn't even think of being persuaded by evidence counter to their belief. If they can't name anything that would ever persuade them, they have a faith position and it is no longer worth debating.

There's a considerable overlap between the two, to the point that flerfs are almost a subset of yecs.
