Thanks to KSP's small scale, a Duna orbital trajectory won't necessitate any heat shield apart from very fragile parts that can be hidden inside a cargo bay. The only time you will require heatshields on Duna is if you plan a reentry from an interplanetary trajectory. For Duna orbital maneuvers, unless you have very low TWR, prefer a window between 70 and 90 km, otherwise you will lose a lot of fuel to circularize inbound and taking off. Duna's atmosphere is about 60 km high. (Laythe is 50 and Kerbin is 70)

To get in orbit you can skim through the atmosphere and the drag will slow you down enough to get in an elliptical orbit where you can do a small burn to bring you above the atmosphere.
