UK towns and cities desperately need this type of transport - Lightweight EVs , scooters and bikes. Not big gas guzzling SUVs. I don't understand why all the wrong vehicles are legal - while at the same time almost anything that's innovative , clean and green is illegal on the roads. UK Govt need to decide how they really want our towns and cities to be - I know which I prefer.

That escooter with a seat is one I wanted for 2yrs, eventually bought it and it did loads apart from one major complaint, struggles to climb even the slightest of hills... This is why we have small escooter wheels, more torque.

Love the on-the-cuff video, especially the will-it-fit-in-the-escalator test. No seriously, another great little product test, and I'm actually really tempted by the thing itself. I just might swap out that seat post for a suspension one. Can you do us a range test for it next?

I thought E scooter was not allowed in the UK, or has it changed.?

This is correct. Unless you hire one from a eScooter hire company. Then it's legal.

How is that legal without pedals? And being used in a public space? And also would be very careful charging that indoors, especially at that price point suggests to me it's not built to any high safety specification. .
@CoasterRob Жыл бұрын
I can't afford to get a car period far too expensive but a e scooter is definitely a more affordable option and if any documents are needed for legal road use and are kept affordable to obtain its should be doable to get a legal road e scooter once the legislation is introduced

So if it has a seat does that make it a mobility scooter so can legally be used on the road? Just wondering cause eScooters get confiscated round here...

Great fun review, made me smile 🙂 Just a quick thought. There are some electric vehicles that are legal to ride in public spaces. Mobility scooters... Couldn't the legislation for mobility scooters be extended to cover all electric vehicles (or some) ? ?????????

Great point on mobility scooters! The government are definitely just making things harder for people of lower pay to get around for cheap
@AlexOnABoat Жыл бұрын
On mobility scooters, there was a chap on Twitter who wrote to his MP asking him to contact the then Minister for Transport, Grant Shaps, seeking clarification on whether his seated eScooter could be classed as a mobility aid, and therefore legally used on the highway and the answer came back that yes, if it was being used by a disabled person then it would indeed be classed as a mobility aid. Of course the problem might be that if abled people start claiming the same thing, then the loophole will get closed and disabled people will suffer, but hopefully that wouldn't happen as e-Mobility freaks are all such lovely people. Maybe it needs a mass letter writing campaign?
@WannabeChristianDoorman Жыл бұрын
@@AlexOnABoat It's good to hear that someone could have been effectively given permission to use their scooter as a mobility scooter, but could they still fall foul of the law? From the government web site, "Mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs come in 2 categories: class 2: these cannot be used on the road (except where there is not a pavement) and have a maximum speed of 4mph class 3: these can be used on the road and have a maximum speed of 4mph off the road and 8mph on the road You do not need to register a class 2 mobility scooter. You must register class 3 mobility scooters." So does that mean that an electric scooter that has a max speed of 4 mph could be classed as a mobility scooter? If you limited your scooters to 4 mph, would that then make them legal??? Would anyone even want to do this...???? Other than those people who have a need to? But for those who have a need, is the way open for them to do just this???
@AlexOnABoat Жыл бұрын
@@WannabeChristianDoorman I think the key part of the letter were the words "mobility aid". So the DfT weren't saying that an eScooter is an invalid carriage like a class 2 or class 3 powered wheelchair or mobility scooter, but rather that it is something a disabled person uses to aid their mobility, like a walking stick for instance. I know within the disability community there's a lot of discussion on mobility aids vs invalid carriages, as there are disabled people like my wife who finds it much easier to use her e-assist bicycle than to walk, and who has been challenged when doing so in a pedestrianised area. In demonstrating that it's an aid without which she cannot access parts of the town in the way an abled person can she can say she is being discriminated against.

It will be great when they are actually legal, and you can actually buy insurance for them... I have mine on Stand By. A Decent One Max. I bought it on sale for £360, reduced from £450. I'm just trying to learn to ride it. By the time I've got my hand on the accelerator and both feet on the deck, I've already slid sideways, to the left, every time. It's like the centre of balance is off on it. That said, my balance is piss poor. My balance is worse than a three legged elephant's. I've just bought a universal E-Scooter seat for it, hoping that help's somewhat. All the Government keep doing, is extending E-scooter trials by another 2 years. The Government have just extended the trials from 2024 to 2026. Before that, it was 2022 - 2024. Before that, it was from 2020 - 2022. E-Scooters have been on trial now for about half a decade. Driverless car's will be out before they legalise E-Scooters at this rate. Every time the trials come to end, the Government just extend them again, for another 2 years. It's maddening. How much data do The Government need? If it was anything else, the regulations would have already been in place 2 years ago. It's like The Government are afraid of something. Especially when a Cyclist can come past, 30 miles per hour, and be far more dangerous to the people and the environment than me on my E-scooter. Every single argument that applies to the dangers of using an E-Scooter apply also to Cyclists. Go look at the accident rates for Cyclists in the UK in 2021 and then compare it to E-Scooter users during the trials. If the Government were serious about safety and 2 wheeled transport, then they would ban Cyclist's also, but Cycles are legal, and E-scooters aren't. Where's the sense? All this clap trap about safety, and E-scooters being dangerous doesn't wash, not when you compare the amount of Cyclists who died on the UK roads to E-Scooter users in any given year.

I can't wait until the govt gives the green light. I think for the most part they're allowed but it feels descretionary right now and knowing my luck, I'd have a scooter for all of a week before it gets taken away XD

I live that little scoobike (did I just invent a new word 😁). It's just what I have been hoping to see on our roads. But because it's not "on our roads" I won't be buying one just yet. You can't dride (another new word? 🤯) Them on the pavement, you can't dride them on the road, so what's can you dride them? Are they legal in bike paths? How can I (as a partially disabled older soul) go shopping when I can dride anywhere except in the car park that I've had to drive to ‼️‼️‼️ Yes we do need insurance I get it, but I would willingly pay that. We need Parliament to get moving with this. I lived your "off the cuff" presentation by the way, (and glad it wasn't off the bike) but perhaps a little bit more info on range and charging rate would be handy 😘

Me too, but i have doubts about protecting jaw, face teeth etc. in real accident. For standing scooter over 15 mph full face helmet is mandatory imo! Last week i slipped on wet mud at right-angled narrow turn on otherwise dry bicycle lane and felt off from my zero 9 facing forward. My left upper arm broke and temporarily my left arm was in abarticulation until my boss was informed and then it joint back to its gambrel(?). So Safety first!
