Welcome Max! The cost of these things is unbelievable. Completely unjustifiable. The fact that vehicle manufacturers can make cars that meet much more stringent EPA regulations (for ICE vehicles), meet crash safety standards, and have a full interior but sell for less than even the ICE version of these is insane. A Bolt has 4 times the battery and more HP. Yes, I know a Bolt is not an off-road vehicle, but the actual manufacture process for something like a Bolt vs a side-by-side is very similar, so the fact that you can get a real street legal car vs a purely off-road vehicle that doesn’t meet any safety requirements and has way less expensive materials in it is absolutely insane. You could get a base-model F150 Lighting for only slightly more than this, but get a vehicle you could actually use vs an off-road only toy. I cannot imagine who buys these things, but they must have far more dollars and way less sense than me.

It seems like Polaris priced this model so that it won't cannibalize sales from their gas powered lineup. If it was more reasonably priced (like $10k less), the rest of their lineup would see sinking sales.

Cool to see Polaris get in to the electric space again. Their old one wasn't this cool. I used to work out of that Polaris Facility, and it was a fun place to be... random days where they were doing testing on machines, so you'd get e-mails asking if you had time to go ride for a couple hours, and just record some stuff before and after. Good times :)

Great to see electric farming things coming out and hopefully leading to more companies doing this. I think farmers and other far out of town people being able to charge from home rather than needing to go to town or truck in fuel, and then worry about fuel getting stolen, could be a game changer.

I had one of the original Ranger Northstar 1000’s that had A/C so I think I can speak for a few guys buying this type of model. The quietness of it would have been a huge draw to me. I don’t hunt any big game but that would be really beneficial to that crowd. I’d like that part just for sharing trails with others that aren’t on motorized vehicles. To me it would make being out more enjoyable. It would be nice if they had an option to add more batteries somewhere as I see that limiting some guys that would want this but the ultimate is a good step forward.

Great video. I own a Ranger XD 900. Don’t use it that much since it’s more for a workhorse at the lake cabin(hauling wood from dead trees) and for grandchildren to drive around (now that they are getting to that age). I think it cost around $12,500 about 5 years ago (it was on sale) plus there were a few accessories that added more money. I think electric ATV’s are a great way to go, assuming you can justify the additional cost. I don’t think I could justify such with the amount of hours I put on end a year. At most I use a gas tank a year. Just wondering if the price includes the roof, windshield, and back window or are they accessories? Basically, what are considered accessories? Accessories tend to really increase the price (that’s where dealers make their money). Thanks again. Max, you did a great job. I live about 20 miles from Wyoming, MN. Wish I could have been on the test drive..
@andrewt92042 жыл бұрын
These would be great around the farm or university campuses. Cost of ownership should be really inexpensive. Not that gas/diesel is a huge cost factor, but the literal $2 for a 0-100% recharge and theoretical 0 maintenance should pay for itself in reasonable time.

I see a lot of people buying these - it makes a lot of sense and one less fuel that's a fire risk and what you can not produce yourself that is needed for the farm etal - just plug it into a solar pannel or two - wonder if they looked at putting one or two solar pannel on the vehicle so it can self charge

I'm a bit shocked these are running AC charging only. DC fast charging is critical for these to work on large project job sites. For use on powerlines, pipelines, road projects, need to be able to trailer them into a quick charger at the end of the day and charge up while getting dinner. The silence of EV UTV's make these well suited to those job sites, but slow AC charging only is a bad fit. I'd also think that many people getting a EV UTV are going to have a on road EV, using the CSS standard plug. CSS's support for both AC and DC charging makes it a no brainer for use in this application.

I wish you guys would have driven the gas version of the XP 1000 as well as the other EV model that Polaris offers (The basic Ranger EV model which is an electrified version of the midsize 570 rather than full size and uses lead acid batteries). You're not really providing a very good comparison to your viewers without including some basic examples of the competing models. For example: You discussed how you might have to talk louder to have a conversation while driving the gas model. Talk about an understatement: With the gas UTVs I've driven: holding a conversation while driving is virtually impossible. You pretty much cannot hear another person speaking unless you're stopped on the gas models. Based on the noise level in the video: The XP Kinetic sounds about the same as the basic Ranger EV and the basic Ranger EV doesn't have any added NVH materials added to it over it's 570 gas counterpart. Btw: Polaris still sells the Ranger EV. It starts at $15k rather than $25k. While it's lead acid instead of Lithium: There are kits to convert the Ranger EV to lithium. For the money I feel like the Ranger EV is a better deal because you can get several years of service out of the lead acid batteries before they need to be replaced and then you spent maybe $6k on a Lithium upgrade which gives you roughly the same battery capacity that you get with the the $25k XP Kinetic. Or for around $8k you can get a 15kWh pack which is the same as what you get with the $30k XP Kinetic. So it's less money overall plus it's spread out over time rather than paying $25-$30k up front. My biggest frustration with these is as I noted above: The current Ranger EV already covers most of the use cases the XP Kinetic would cover. So for me they should have offered this in a Crew model (IE: two rows for seating 4-6 passengers). This new model overlaps too much with the existing EV offering. I don't see any reason why I'd spend $10-$15k more for the Kinetic over the basic Ranger EV. My family already owns 4 of these EV models on their ranch and they would have bought one or two of these Kinetic models in a heartbeat if they were offered in a crew model (4-6 passengers) instead of a 2-3 passenger model.

(MN resident checking in) I absolutely despise these vehicles when they're not on a farm or ranch, or of use for folks with mobility issues. Any other use is just a shame on the land. Thankfully there is an ICE alternative on the way from Polaris, I guess...

@@Smidge204 You can buy the EV version drive it for several years on the Lead Acid batteries, and for around $5-$8k you can get a kit to convert it to lithium. I've converted 3 EV units to Lithium now. It's not a hard job at all. In the video they mentioned in passing but they phrased it as "Polaris USED to sell another EV model" which implies the older model is no longer available. My point is it's still available. You can go to Polaris right now and buy a 2022 Ranger EV for $15k. You don't need to drop $25-$30k on an electric UTV if you don't want/need the added power of the XP model. I personally find the 35 HP motor on the EV model to be PLENTY.
