Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-)

Nice demo and overview of the changes for the mark 2 version of this synthesizer. I got to try the original at Brooklyn synth expo and I was impressed with the sound but didn’t think it really fit into my music making workflow. Overall this video is a great synthesizer review/demonstration for musicians! (I saw your community post and algorithm troubles, hopefully this helps a little!)

Thank you very much! Since I adjusted the title and description and hashtags, things seem to go up... slowly. I wonder if Gamechanger Audios own videos on this synth suffer from the same problem ;-)

I was impressed by the Mk1, so I am glad to be able to say I am more impressed by the Mk2. Mechanical noises excepted. The style is also very nice- looks awesome in a dark setting! I'll never afford one (at least not without a Lotto win) but that doesn't mean I can't lust after the device(s). As always, great to see the Yellow Sub making an appearance.

It seems to pump out a polyphonic sound which is surprising considering it's listed as only having two voices. I'm guessing that's 4 oscillators per voice? There's a huge price difference between the original and the mk2.

The new model is 4 voice polyphonic with 3 oscillators per voice. 2 of them are motors, one is the DCO I'm talking about in the beginning of the video.

I could be/probably am over-simplifying, but 8 motors and 8 buttons = 8 notes at once, no? At any rate, I suspect that the price difference is a result of under-charging for the MkI and likely costing themselves a lot of money in the process, with good intentions.

@@pjforde1978 One voice uses 2 motors as oscillators, but you can assign a midi channel to each row of motors, achieving an 8 voice paraphonic mode (in which only 4 envelopes can be active synchroneously at any given time)

@@mr_floydst I want to follow that, I truly do. All I know is that I love how it sounds and I love playing it. Also, very few folks mention how good it smells while you play it.

I'm ALL IN on this synth, no matter how long it takes me, this _will_ be in my possession. I know uniqueness of character when I hear it, and the MK2's got it in _spades._ ✨ Thanks for your side-by-side and great playing❣

What can I do but wholeheartedly agree to you! This machine is an engineering marvel and with MK2, they really hit the sweet spot. It sounds really, really great and unique.

Great video that is incredibly helpful. I’m seriously considering buying a used mki. Any issues updating the firmware on your mki?

Hi, thanks for watching! No, updating the firmware was really straightforward. Just make sure there's no power failure while installing it ;-)

2 questions: 1. What is the purpose of those motors, how do they create sounds? 2. what is that accent came from? 😉
@mr_floydst
@mr_floydst Ай бұрын
1 The motors spin at different speeds depending on which note you play. The synth can pick up both the sound the motor itself makes, or an optical pattern painted onto the discs which is then converted to sound. 2 most likely from another place of the world than where you live / that grammar came from. ;-)

Looks like a nightmare to maintain, you better keep it in a sealed room. Preset 05 was the most interesting to me, it would sound even better if you could auto pan the voices, Oberheim style.

Thanks for watching - I had the first one for 4 years, used it just as much as my other gear. No problems so far. These are brushless drone motors and they're running way below their specifications here (they don't need to lift anything or counter strong gusts of wind ;-) ) The motors are placed in sockets so you can easily swap them.
