Kayakers' dream day! Epic conditions, too. Huge yellow spot & love that you released the omilu. Pelagics were perfect!

Nice video! I just moved to Oahu on the 10th and plan on going out kayak fishing within the next few weeks but haven't bought any rods/reels for saltwater as I was an avid freshwater angler prior to this move. Do you have any advice on rods, reels, line, etc or any good local shops to browse?

Thanks a lot Kyle! Oh that's awesome! This is what's been working for me, but there's a lot of different methods out there to catch fish in these waters. If you want just the basics, I'd get one setup for catching live bait and one setup for troll around live bait for predators. Some guys run spinners for live bait rods, but I prefer a small baitcaster which has a line counter built in. It's very important to be accurate when dropping into the bait balls to catch them. If you don't get a line counter, at least get color coated line which will help you identify the proper depth. The rod I use is a jigging rod because the action you use to catch bait is similar to jigging. For my trolling live bait setups I have a couple. One spinner and two conventional. If you're looking for something easy to use, get a spinner with a live liner feature as this comes in handy to engage drag instantly, yet allow little to no resistance when your live bait is swimming around. I run a Thunnus 12000 with 50lb braid. 50-65lb is the most common. Conventional reels will have greater line capacity and drag if you're looking at lever drags. Pair it with a rod that matches the line weight and size of fish you're going after. Feel free to message me and we can chat on the phone about everything in greater detail!

🤣 I used to wear loose pants but prefer the compression leggings. They’re more comfortable for me. Thanks for watching!
