I like what they did with the Joker here, like Mira said, life is like a game. They took that idea (granted it's up to interpretation) of the Joker is the game of life. As others have said, yes there is a Joker in the source material but i think they used the Karube and Chota bar scene for that. Yes Kuina's name is Hikari

by the way something that wasn't explained here that happened in the manga was that Mira was using some hallucinogens in her tea to make it easier for Arisu to imagine the things that she said. that's why Arisu was mentally weak and believed almost anything Mira said

If it helps, in the source material he was drugged to heaven and back with some psychedelic. They never state it in the series but i assume thats what was in the tea

@@wilfredclarity7642 I kinda figured that he was under some kind of influence. But it was still frustrating. My guess is that that sequence plays out better in the printed format, where you're reading the words instead of hearing them spoken. I'm sure the time progression feels different that way.

@@PlanetHouston I liked it. Imo, it made sense for him to snap out of it for that long. It shows the intensity and difficulty of that game, since it’s the queen of hearts. The whole idea of betrayal/trust being the main theme for hearts and how in her game, he had to decide whether or not he should trust in usagi’s words and the relationship they built together, despite the fact that he’s still traumatized from losing his two friends. I think it makes sense that he took that long, like he was so broken and depressed and there was a large part of him that wanted to believe that the whole borderland was just made up in his head

@@aarons.1349 the joker card is basically the ferryman in Greek culture which appears right after arisu beats the Queen. He explains everything about the borderland being a literal borderland between life and death.. like purgatory. Then the question of staying or leaving is there. The previous card players died moments before Arisu in the same comet and beat the games, then chose to stay. I think Netflix kept the joker card for a possible season 3… who knows😊

I wish we could get a season 3 but we won't get it unless they confirm the spin off which is alice in borderland: retry. Also the joker card is like the grim reaper of the game and the card is responsible for all of the games including the laser and the card is responsible for delivering the dead and the alive back and you can also see that no face cards survived because the joker is the most powerful card in the deck so even if you stay, you're still dead.

The joker card is something that sadly the show doesn’t do, but I hope they address them in Season 3 as 1-2 covered the first book, we still have another one to go and it’s about the same length. Simply put, it’s a character and an answer to a question we never got the answer to, “who is the game master?”
