You guys are fantastic. I kinda wish there was a movement toward community gardens that people could just either take from or leave plants in that they are getting rid of. It breaks my heart every time I see people ripping perfectly good plants out of the ground to update a space... there are so many lower income people for example that can't overhaul their own spaces for lack of extra income and nurseries are out of the question. OR put a sign in front a week or so before the makeover offering the plants to people who want them and leave them out for people to come get them rather than sending them to the landfill. OR it could even be a business idea for somebody to connect with a few landscapers and renovators to come and get them like Habitat for Humanity does with building materials. So many options for re-use, I hope people start to look at things more often with that in mind.

The pebble walkway and tile entryway, which both looked to be in great shape, could have been topped with a non-skid coating for an economical makeover and slip proofing. Wood decking can also be very slick when wet. The slope on the walkway would have been great for ease of entry for anyone with a mobility issue or for wheelchair access rather than steps. What they've done makes for a good show but for longevity and accessibility not so much.

I used those small 3mm gaps between hardwood decking boards (kwila) and regretted it - I ended up having to pull up all of the decking boards after they swelled, took up the gap and water couldn't escape between them. I recommend doubling the gap between the decking boards if you're in a wet climate.
