It is a testament to the power of the writing and acting in this episode that it can send you through so many complicated emotions, from sweet ones like Simon taking the cupcake to Wille the morning of his birthday to Wille’s anger finally coming through at his parents during the birthday celebration. One of the most impressive things to me in this episode is August’s letter to himself, which is heartbreaking as he reads it to Sara, and you can feel sympathy for him and what he has gone through without totally forgiving him for the harm he’s done. This episode is sometimes tough to watch, but it is brilliantly executed.
