@@heyjarrod I know you don't care enough (even though you should when you're commenting on someone's character) but he has tonnes of old videos from a year or so ago where he used the "old technique" mentioned here. You can go back to his channel to see the difference in his playing. Yes, it was already amazing, but if you paid a modicum of attention to what he was demonstrating, you'd be able to see a noticeable change in his left and right hand technique. Either way, even if it was all faked, you don't need to be a genius to realize a practice routine such as this will help you regardless of your skill level, unless you're Guthrie Govan or something.

@@heyjarrod This is literally a guitar teacher selling a practice plan and lessons, promoting the same philosophy as yours for getting good. Don't be fooled by the sensational presentation (It's KZbin, of course he has to pitch it in a certain way for views) and dig a little deeper before making pretentious comments about another person. That's all I'm saying here.

The picking is a complicated issue, each hand is different and there are physiological matters that make a grip much easier or confortable than other for each one, in my case i use a similar grip to your new grip, but i use my pinky for suport or stabilize the hand. i got problems in my arms and i found this way to improve precision. Thanks for you dedication, honesty and realism in showing progress.

Wonderful lesson, since I`, almost 60 and my Costa Rican Band Igni Ferroque 43, I was never able to develop my picking speed and technic, now since I understand your way to progress, I have improved both, but never that fast, which is ok and as an advice for those like my self, I use this same pattern but with pull ups and hammer on trying to achieve a cleaner sound and Berth`s speed and that way, I`m almost there. I really appreciate the breakdown on the pick grip. I’ve been trying to rebuild my right hand technique. To be cleaner and more fluid. After all these years, it feels so difficult and frustrating. It’s nice to see someone else in the process of refinement. Also I love the before and after analysis. That’s helpful!

I’m really glad that I happen to see this video bcz I’m a beginner playing electric guitar. I play a lot on my classical and flamenco guitars and the electric was just gathering dust hanging on the wall. I had it for years but didn’t have the motivation to pick it up and play. Last December though, I told myself that this will be my New Years resolution to learn how to play it and stick to it. So I try to watch lots of tutorials on you tube. Thank you and I subbed✌🏼

I added this to my practice regimen about 2, maybe 3 months ago. I had been practicing mostly the same things on loop prior to adding this but I feel like this one really helped me make strides not just in sheer velocity of noise coming from my guitar but it seemed to help clean up a lot of my other practices as well. The odd note grouping was REALLY hard to get used to, and it's still easy to get tripped up when pushing it to 180ish BPM but unlike some other things I've spent time on, I felt like working this in every day has actually made a very noticeable difference. Thank you Bernth

In one way I hate to admit this but in another it shows my commitment to music. I'm 48 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 16. I am so much into music that I named my daughter Sabian I even have a shoulder to shoulder tattoo with the same font sabian uses on the symbols. And Yeah I purchased a brand new Pearl drum kit and 25 Sabian symbols it lives in a dedicated drum room. I completed a repair to my MIDI issues this morning at 4 AM on my rack system for my guitars. For decades My band members and I suffered from pick issues. I'm sure most of you have seen live videos that shows 20 or so picks attached to a mic stand. Well here's your pick grip solution. A musician is a creator just like a welder, carpenter or painter. I do all of that. The pick solution is to get sanding paper disks made to go on a bench sander. They have a glued surface on the back. once cut into the shape to cover 1/3 of the pick. You will never drop your pick again and you can hold it in any position you like for the style of music your playing. I am now able to shred twice as fast and with more control than ever before. keep playing and never stop. Unless your at a gun range and then I would say keep shooting until your outta rounds. make every round count just like every note counts!

I could be wrong, but pretty convinced that most players cannot achieve a technical level like this no matter how much they practice. Guys like this are a force of nature . That said, I do believe that a good level of musicianship can be attained by regular folks - if they put in the time to learn basic theory, harmony and ear training.

I would add some important details for people starting with this exercise: 1-Try to hit the string always with the very tip of your finger and consistently in the same finger spot. 2-Raise your index finger when you are not using it, that will release a lot of tension 3-Concentrate of hitting the string with your pick and left hand at the same time, don't prepare one hand and then the other. 4-Use a metronome the way you hit one note per click. Most people suffer from timing inconsistency when jumping from 4 to 3 and 3 to 2 fingers, so you won't notice your mistakes if you don't use a metronome.
@superjarri3 жыл бұрын
Well, there's more than one type of practice. I spend 80% of my time in slow tempos, focusing on hitting every note on the beat, as I were a drummer. One important thing when practicing at slow tempos is keeping your movements fast as you were waiting till the last moment to hit the note, so the technique remains the same as when playing fast. If I want to practice fast runs I usually go for a 100,110 or 120 bpm and play every subdivision possible over them. I think that's probably your approach, which is fine but I think the first method is still where you want to spend most of your practice time.

You mentioned here that your right hand was scraping the strings when picking and that fingers of your left hand should be more vertical for better technique - my question is how do we implement proper muting/reduce string noise by trying not to touch other string with either your left or right hand?
@djabthrash3 жыл бұрын
i guess : right hand : use your palm left hand : use the base of your fingers on the strings which are not right under/above the currently played string (which you will mute with your palm) and maybe since you don't fret at exactly a 90 degree angle, then you still mute (just a bit) the strings right above/under the currently played string
