Those scars are from his uncle as a child. The entire ep was structured in a way to show the cycle of abuse/generational abuse. Ending with the beginning.

Deep down they do truly care about each other, but Logan raised them to not be siblings, but be competitors with each other as their competition, so even if they don't want to see their sibling hurt or depressed, it goes against their programming to not be combative or not only look out for themselves, even at the expense of each other. Helping one another is viewed as weakness and wrong due to their upbringing
