Ive been called fat all my life and i remember in highschool i dropped to 106 pounds and was skinny as heck and they still called me fat, then the next year i went up to 142 and everyone said OMG you got so fat you were skinny last year. Like bIH you said i was huge last year and i had to suffer through that. Even my dad would always say stuff like " You were so skinny when you were little idk what happened" ..... yOu mean when I was 6 and my body actually started getting taller ?! WTF. Then finally i get to around 165 as an adult and become happy with myself at nearly 30 years old, ive been more secure than I ever have been with my body despite what anyone says. Then i got covid and it made me drop down to 129-130 in like 2 weeks it was insaneee. So then severall months after when im finally around family again its a mix of OMG YOU LOOK SO GOOD and Omggg whats wrONG WITH YOU lol you cant win. Like i do understand not all of them know it was covid so I dont blame them, but my dad knows and has pointed out every body fat on me to poke and make fun of over the years was suddenly, instead of leaving me alone about my weight for once was all Whats wrong with you, are you sickk??? It's like it's not actually about you but about how those critical people project their own insecurities onto you. No need to pay any attention to that then. They'll always find things to complain about. Maybe they need a hug and be told you love them anyway despite their judgments about you that have nothing to do with them. At the very least it may get them confused and then they'll remember it and think about it. If it pisses them off, good because judge not lest ye be judged.

The one thing that stuck with me from that Kaley Cuoco film was the scene where her character tries to explain/legitimatize folks who comment on the weight of fat people because maybe they are concerned about peoples health (I've heard this excuse so many times 🙄) and another girl in the movie who is actually fat says, "You really think people "moo" at us because they care about the healthcare system?" Lots of that movie is totally stereotypes, but something about that line and how realistic and somehow empowering it felt for her to basically say, "Are you being effing serious right now?" stood in my brain after only seeing the film once.

Oh my god finally someone is talking about this!! Hollywood had so many terrible stereotypes but this one was ALWAYS one that got under my skin. If your “fat” that doesn’t automatically mean you can’t stop eating and you’re lazy. That’s why there’s been no inclusivity until recent years. 🤦🏽♀️

As a former fatty, one of the movies I found most relatable about overweight people was this Korean movie called 200 lb Beauty. It’s odd but I found the main character likable, relatable, and portrayed pretty well. She isn’t constantly eating or portrayed as selfish or lazy. She is just overweight and the movie is showing her struggles and how she is treated. The ending is fantastic in my opinion as well. It has an interesting message about appearances and plastic surgery. If your okay with reading subtitles, i say give it a watch!
@southchild_2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm usually wary with korean shows/movies because of their intense beauty standards and so the only one I'd seen was Oh My Venus! which from what I remember wasn't too bad. It still depicted the character as a fat woman who was constantly eating, but she also made a strong effort to have a healthier lifestyle with good diet and exercise as opposed to resorting to plastic surgery or impossibly quick/enhealthy weight loss scenarios. I think it was a pretty good depiction of someone dealing with an eating disorder and battling with weight loss.

You might want to try Dumplin. It was a pretty good movie about a heavyset girl whose mom did all these talent shows. The mom was kind of reliving her glory days and she spent way more time helping the other contestants than she did with her own daughter. Her daughter felt like she was not welcome to be a part of her mother's world because she was not thin. She reacts to this perceived rejection by trivializing talent shows and her mother's work until one day she gets talked into signing up for the local talent show. She finds that it is a lot more work than just being thin and she starts actually trying. In the end, she does not win because she started trying way too late but she does end up proving to herself that she could be beautiful and that others had always seen her as such. The movie ends with the mother and daughter becoming closer. The mom starts paying more attention to her daughter's needs and the daughter has more respect for the good work her mom does.

@@catburglarnami thin people don't eat whatever. That's not how it works. When you see them eating burgers or the like, it's once a week or socially. They skipped meals I'm sure, several times that week as well, or had snacks instead. Or they smoke. Calories in, calorie expenditure. It's basic science. Trust me I've gone from size 2 to 8 in my adult life. Super skinny people say they eat normally, and they don't really. Big people say they eat healthy, and they don't, really, or they are consuming alcohol and getting calories from that. Take my friend who says she's eating only salad and doesn't understand why she's not losing weight and then one day I see her in her car, hiding, eating a whole pizza to herself. Or my co worker who sits down all day except to make McDonald's runs while I'm laboring and just snacking or light meals. Or my teacher who is 500 lbs plus who, whenever we discuss an event, even musical, she just talks about what sort of food she can get. Food is such an addiction for some, be it eatting too much or dieting. That being said I am not trying to diss on bigger people or even thin ones, but lifestyle and eatting habits are so engrained I think people don't realize. The habits are learned from parents very early on. Great video per usual.
@UrrmmWut...2 жыл бұрын
@catburglarnami just as "skinny" ppl shouldn't judge an "overweight" person the same goes for "overweight"ppl not judging a "thin" person. No one can help being born with the metabolism they get. And you never know what's going on with others whether it's eating disorders (eating to much or starving themselves) to medical conditions, medications, etc. Ppl just need to work on loving and accepting themselves rather than judge others by how they look. There's SO many actually important things we all need to be worrying about. Especially in America right now.

It's so wierd! Then I'm the overly sensitive person in a bad place for calling her out on it. 🤦🏼♀️

Plus the red hair was STUNNING & she was so pretty. Can’t wait to see a plus size character not being a stereotype in a movie & be recognized as an awesome movie.

@@GinaD0726 I'm glad you've found somebody better. I hope someday I will, too. My ex stopped wanting me when I got pregnant. We had a healthy baby, which made him very happy. However, he was no longer attracted to me and he would never admit it. He was too much of a "nice guy" to admit it. But I gained weight after the baby, and he just started treating me like his platonic responsibility. The only reason he would sleep with me again was to try and have another baby. I had a miscarriage the second time I got pregnant. I had post partum depression both times, but I was trying to pretend to be happy because he didn't want to deal with it. We stayed together as long as we did just for our only daughter's sake. She never had a sibling because he would never sleep with me again after I had the miscarriage. He wouldn't even talk to me or look at me, if he could help it. But he still smiled and pretended to be nice. Eventually he broke up with me. He refused to go to counseling or work on our relationship. When I pressed him on why, he just said he's unhappy because I'm fat and lazy. Thanks, Mr. "nice guy". Glad youre so "nice."
@GinaD07262 жыл бұрын
@@themaggattack yep. My ex was the "nice guy" as well. I get that. I really tried so hard with him and he just would not put in any effort to work with me. So while I tell people my truth, that he did the absolute bare minimum when it came to our relationship, taking care of our child, and helping with house hold duties, he tells people we just "fell out of love". I heard him say it to one of his friends and I realized that HE fell out of love and that's why he didn't change. That's why he made no efforts. Because I was definitely still in love with him. And it sucks knowing that a major reason he "fell out of love" was because of my body changing after I had our son. He married me. He made a promise that he'd love me unconditionally. Well, apparently he had conditions and the most important thing to him was staying thin (Though when we met, he was in the USMC and he sure as shit doesn't look the same as he did back then. But *I* didn't marry for looks). What kind of man does that to the mother of his child? What kind of HUSBAND does that to his wife? I'm sorry you had to go through that but you will definitely find someone who loves all of you. Every piece. Until then, learn to love yourself again. Give yourself the love you weren't getting.

Awesome review, Jaime! I love your content so much, but I do want to comment on something. I was always skinny, so I was never mocked for my weight. However, aside from my body, I was the least attractive girl in my group of friends. I’ve sat at tables where I was the only girl who didn’t get asked to dance, and guys routinely asked for my friends’ phone numbers. Once, a group of guys yelled out the car window at me, “Nice legs, shame about the face,” which was a popular song in the 1980s. I’ve been judged for not being pretty and have lots of shameful memories. Being different and not fitting into stereotypical female norms is really hard when you’re young. It still stings today, and I’m in my 60s.

Some people just SUCK. I'm so sorry people have made you feel like that. The TRUTH is though... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you're not in the "club scene" or Hollywood, there are people who think you're ugly, and there are people who think you're gorgeous. Just park at Walmart for awhile, and watch people. There are people who don't fit the Hollywood stereotype of "pretty" and they're holding hands with they're partner with a string of kids behind them. I've met people who think Brad Pitt is unattractive. I think Ricky Gervais is hot as hell. Point is, in the real world, each individual person has individual likes and dislikes, All you gotta do is stay away from the fake, narcissistic, loud minority (club scenes, and Hollywood, ie: the media)

@designchik I'm sorry you felt like that when you were growing up, I was the same for much of my teens. I later realised that 'ugly' is a load of rubbish, because all the features I hated on myself (nose, jaw etc) I never had a problem with on my family members who shared them. I always thought my bestie was beautiful, even when she wasn't making an effort to look conventionally attractive. Truth is most of us just look normal, and when we get to know each other we find a certain smile beautiful, or a dimple, or a laugh. I hope you are rocking your 60s, just knowing you look totally great :)

This video gave me a realisation - for medical reasons I have barely been able to eat for most of my life, and though I now realise I was probably 'slim' before (didn't think so at the time), since I started actually being able to eat 12 months ago I've gained a significant amount of weight and it's been distressing to see myself change so dramatically. But there is nothing wrong with slowly adjusting to eating like a regular person! It's okay to enjoy all the things I've been denied my entire life! Most people go a little crazy when such heavy restrictions are lifted and.. that's okay. I am okay, I can cope with this and with the choice of being 'slim' or not being in constant agony, I know which one I would choose. I don't judge others for their weight, so it would be nice if I could learn to extend that grace to myself, too. Thanks Jaime, for giving me this understanding.

I've also been dealing with health issues that caused pain and discomfort for a couple years,and there were times I just chose not to eat to avoid pain. With that came fatigue, malnutrition, and weight loss. A little while ago I was able to take an antibiotic treatment, and since then I've been able to incorporate a lot of different foods into my diet again, and I'm eating 3 times a day again. With that can cause weight gain. At the moment I'm just trying to maintain, and have plans to loose weight in a healthy way, but I have to offer myself grace when I gain weight, because it's to be expected. So glad you're doing better! 💜

4 memories from when I lived in Los Angeles that has always clarified for me why Hollywood doesn't understand what healthy weight people let alone heavy people are like. 1. My ultra rich roommate was talking to her ultra rich friend about how happy she was that she made it to a size -2. That isn't a size 2, it is negative 2. As in less than size 00. If you're rich enough the stores on Rodeo Drive sell negative sizes. 2. Overhearing a girl say, "If you're a size 6, you might as well be a size 36." 3. Having a group of women look at me weird for eating my entire food at a restaurant. Looked around and realized socially that the most I should eat is half my plate. Even that was much more than what most women ate. 4. Going to a fancy boutique with ultra rich roommate and seeing some beautiful glass sticks for sale. She explained to a confused me that they were to help you throw up after eating so you didn't have to get vomit on your hand and risk smelling.

WTF?! You just made me think of my cousins wedding to a native Angelino. The whole wedding her friends made weird toasts and comments about her disordered eating, like her BFF made a speech about how she doesn’t eat much so that she can get her food boxed up to give to a homeless person, and that even though she hates food, she went to McDonald’s to go get McFlurries for everyone a party, even though she wouldn’t eat one herself. There were weird “jokes” from her family during dinners that she “just doesn’t eat” and that it has nothing to do with the wedding. At the actual wedding dinner, each table had a different set of childhood photo pairings of her and my cousin at different ages from babyhood to senior year of high school. You could literally see the time frame of her going from healthy looking to literally gaunt. I was seated at a table includig my parents and mom’s cousin, and his wife just started taking really loudly about how she obviously was anorexic and needed help…and everyone at the table was letting her go on. I had to snap at her to shut it down because even though she very clearly had an eating disorder, how the hell would it help to gossip loudly about it on her literal wedding day?! I felt so badly for her, but I guess that’s the price to pay when you’re wealthy and grow up in Los Angeles.

I loved that movie too! I thought it was funny that she brought it up because I was just thinking about rewatching it. But now I feel kind of guilty for liking it, because of all of the stereotypes

@@queencleopatra007 Don't feel guilty. It's a great movie. Bask in the nostalgia 💯 and also, RIP Jerry Stiller 💕

I was not expecting her to end up with peeping Tom. The way you reviewed this movie, it felt like that came out of nowhere. Also, I am a fat girl who used to be thin and I've heard it all. People will judge no matter your size. But there is a definite difference in how people treat you.

I found it ironic that I got a weight loss pill ad whilst watching this. Side note: love the main character’s hair colour! Thanks again for another great video, Jaime!

Jaime, I really like your content. You always make me feel less lonely and I enjoy reliving some of these movies through your perspective. Thank you for being a creator and don't let the haters drag you down ever ever. You're gorgeous and funny and awkwardly cool.

Wild to see Melissa Bergland pop up in a film like this! I only know her as an Australian TV star. And this was whilst she was starring in a really successful show called Winners & Losers.

you should watch The Cinderella Pact aka Lying to be perfect (the movie has 2 names)... It's about 3 plus size women who are friends and go on a diet together and the lead has an emotional transformation as well it's pretty good

ugh Jaime you always make my day! (also the world neeeeeeeds you to do a short of Jennifer Coolidge’s new Old Navy commercial)

Any other Canadians clock that Presidents Choice ice cream before you knew where the film was set? 😹

As someone who’s made the mistake of being a third wheel while camping, I wish I could have just rolled away. That part made me laugh so much 😂 Thank you for bringing laughter to my Wednesday, Jaime!

FACTS on the part where the skinny one is always eating a ton of junk. I have tried and trieeedddd to gain weight past 105-110. At one point I was eating 2 14oz containers of ice cream a DAY. Pleaseeee don't be jealous. Being skinny comes with so many problems! Definitely one of those "the grass is greener" type of deal for both parties, I'm sure.

This is amazing! I'm a long time watcher/patreon subscriber, and I'm Canadian!! I recognize many of these characters. The most famous ones are the best friend, she is from This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and her sisters fiance was JRoc from Trailer Park Boys!!! ❤️❤️ It's stills a crappy movie though lmao thanks for watching it for us!! Edit: OMG the PC (Presidents Choice) brand ice cream she was eating in the beginning caught my eye right away!! It's not often we see brands from our home like that in media 🥰

Ah I wish I had seen your comment before I posted mine! I noticed the PC logo right away 😅

I saw the PC logo too 😂 I live in Nova Scotia right near the original trailer park where trailer park Boys was filmed in the early seasons. I'm also in the same town we're Vollies was filmed and saw "Jroc" almost every day for a couple weeks. Lol. Good old Canadian TV 😉

I am absolutely BEGGING you to do the new Lindsay Lohan movie “Falling For Christmas”!!! It gets worse with every passing minute you watch it. I especially love the scene where she asks for a blow dryer and then the next cut away is of her blow drying her already blowdried/styled hair.
