The one thing I hate about this finale is that the place Cadence and Twi were trapped in was so close to caterlot. Like, why not, I don’t know, put them in the hive so your children can feed on their love or something 😭

Going in and out of canterlot with mass security on alert with two hostages would be an excellent way to completely ruin their plans, it actually IS smarter to keep them trapped close by if there’s too much policing around to move them, she expected them to simply not be competent enough to escape the caves by themselves and thought that the hypnotized bridesmaids would be better defense than they ended up being, those were her real mistakes, she should’ve taken more measures to incapacitate, cadence seemed pretty incapacitated on her own but she put a perfectly healthy twilight down there, if she had roughed twilight up some more or put them in a cage or sedated them with magic or literally anything other than just putting a fully capable twilight down there she might have actually succeeded. At the time of the wedding she’s the only changeling inside canterlot until the protection spell breaks so she couldn’t have anyone really help her other than hypnotized ponies, she’s a raging narcissist and overestimated how well her spell works on the bridesmaids, she probably truly believed in her own magic that much that she thought they would stop twilight and cadence.

I think she also expected twilight to not believe cadence. I think she was basically expecting twilight to kill cadence or at least fight her to exhaustion. Basically she made a lot of assumptions based on her own ego. She probably thinks she nailed playing cadence and that there’s no way to tell them apart or something. Cause she’s a narcissist.

Congrats on reaching the season 2 finale Shy Guy! And I look forward to your season 3 reactions!!! "A Canterlot Wedding" parts 1 and 2 is one of my all time favorite season finales in the FIM series! At the time it was very interesting to learn that Twilight had a brother IE Shining Armor, Although I can still remember some people in the fandom hated that Shining Armor was such an out of nowhere character since the writers never gave us any hint or foreshadowing of Shining Armor's existence in any of the previous episodes of the first two seasons. But he became a fan favorite character regardless. And of course both Princess Cadence and Queen Chrysalis also instantly became fan favorite characters! Just as "This Day Aria" instantly became one of the most memorable duet songs in the entire FIM series! Hell to this day Chrysalis is still considered the best villain by many, But don't worry this won't be the last we will see of the Changelings.

I mean, Team Rocket only consists of 3 people. This is hundreds. Imagine hundreds scattered across miles in every direction. Some have to travel North, some have to travel South... 24:34 - Promotion to what, exactly? Royal advisor? Some title like Baroness? Countess? Duchess? A permanent position in the thrown room? 25:38 - If she caught it by luck, possibly. But since she pushed everyone away and attacked it with greed/lust/some sin, would it mean she'll have bad luck in love? I will say, this finale was hard to watch. It was written in such a way that even I had my doubts whether Twilight was right or not.

Welcome to the first two part finale of the show, and one that is still ranked as one of the best two parters. In large part because of just how much EVERYONE loved Queen Chrysalis. It became a meme within hours that all she had to do to get an endless supply of love to feed on was come to Earth and she'd find so many people willing to give it to her. She is the only baddie to rival Discord for the title of most popular villain. (Nightmare Moon more gets hype and love for being related to Luna and more for the tragedy of Luna giving into her darkness then for NMM herself.) Beyond that, they just plain knocked it out of the park overall. Well a few hiccups with story but, we'll get to that. Yeah this episode was hyped going in, with a huge event, massive ad push by Hasbro, being billed as the massive Royal Wedding... it was big and it lived up to the build up. So onto direct comments... yeah, no one knew Twilight had a brother, and given the mane 6's reaction, they didn't either. Twi just, never really got around to talking about her family it seems. Plus, a third alicorn. So... this caused issues both for fans, given how Tia and Luna were built up, and behind the scenes as Lauren Faust really, really did not want there to be other alicorns, and it's thought that this was the final straw that made her just completely leave work on the production. That said, Cadance and Shining Armor did go on to become incredibly well loved and popular characters... unless you are Silver Quill, who can't cover anything even tangentially related to them without taking digs at how much he finds them disappointing in ways that I do not get. (It mostly feels like he's upset they don't get the same focus and development as primary characters, while being secondary at best if not tertiary characters) The other thing to keep in mind... we have no idea just how long has actually passed in 'verse. It's highly unlikely it's been two years that Twilight never mentioned her brother. Also, while not directly, there has been subtle build up to this over the season. That book back in Hearts and Hooves Day, the princess was an alicorn, laying the foundation for there being others. The spell Twilight used to keep the CMC out of her house when they went all tabloid scum? Looks an awful lot like Shining Armor's...doesn't it? Also, remember how I said take note of that letter Garble tossed in the lava back in Dragon Quest? See, my headcanon is that that letter WAS Shining Armor telling Twilight about him and Cadance hooking up. But, this ep is not without it's issues that really can't be defended well either.... Where did this 'threat' come from that set everypony on alert in the first place? How did no one in the city notice the swarm outside till Chryssi mentioned them?Lots of little details that don't really add up when you think about them, which sadly... is going to be par for the course for the two parters for the next few seasons. So, I've talked about specific writers before and their quirks, AKR is THE Pinkie Pie writer, Dave Polsky was the slapstick writer, MA Larson is the GOAT, Merriwether Williams is.... yeah been over her. But now we come to Meaghan McCarthy, who after Lauren leaves will be the show runner for the next few seasons, and write all the big two part eps in that time and... as a show runner she did great, as a writer... she has issues. Many we see here, though they get worse later on. The most systemic being she is a very 'because the plot says so' writer, who tends to have things happen simply because that's what the story needs to happen, rather then make sure there is a solid, logical reason in 'verse for it to happen. But on top of that..... she really, really does not know what to do with the Royal Sisters. For her, Twilight is the main character who needs to solve the problem (Or Cadance sometimes) while Tia and Luna are just overpowered roadblocks that need to be yeeted out of the story ASAP so they don't get in the way of Twilight saving the day. Hence, Celestia going down like a chump. This is, admittedly, the most understandable of the losses, since many make the argument she was holding back her power to avoid collateral damage with so many ponies around, and even Chryssi was shocked she overpowered her. But.... well we'll get to later eps later.... In more general fandom memory, this gave us a wonderful new art style to work with, Pointy Ponies, we got a rare glimpse of Wildfire, aka Sibsy Pony (The mare that got hit by Cadance's cupid effect in Twi's flashback) the OC of Sibsy, one of the lead storyboard artists for the show. We got SOOOO many fics about what Luna was doing, from her being off kicking ass elsewhere, to her sleeping through the fight and just grumbling about ponies needing to keep it down. Ohhh and Doomie! The Changeling that Pinkie Pie had turn into various Mane 6 before beating up, because "Do me! Do me!" Plus above all else, this solidified the meme of "Cue happy Theme Music!" The tendency of two parters to have part one end on some massive shocking twists of "Oh shit WHAT!?" and everything looking horrible..... only to go right into bright, happy credit music. Season 2 done, and now, you have SOOOO much fan content you can binge and see, since this unlocks just, tons of stuff given how big a force the Changelings and Chryssi became in the fandom!
