Ok so hear me out. I got dentures about 2 years ago, I had my last 16 teeth pulled all in one session at a facial surgery facility. I was given the option before hand to have dentures made that I could have put in upon waking up from the surgery. However I opted out from that and went toothless for 1-2 months letting things heal. People were wearing masks everywhere they went because of the pandemic so I just wore one everywhere I went during that time. At about the 1 and half month mark I had impressions made for what I think were my test fit dentures. After getting this pair of dentures and putting them in I immediately had to use adhesives and It was very hard to eat anything. Shortly after that I had this same set realigned and they fit well. However the liner kept coming unattached from the denture itself. I used this set for about 7-8 months. Using adhesive and whatever else I could find to make them comfortable. Then one day while cleaning my dentures I dropped the bottom set and they broke in half. I Went to my dentist who took another impression and said that these would be the final denture and that they would be stronger. After getting these they fit very well, they fit so well that I wasn’t having to use adhesives. Eating hard foods hurt because I was used to the cushioning from the adhesives however I watched a KZbin video on a lady that got her dentures at something like 19 years old and her word of advise completely changed my life. Instead of having my new dentures realigned I just kept wearing them with no adhesive. Instead of conforming my dentures to my mouth I naturally let my bones in my mouth slowly conform to the shape of the denture, now this was definitely not without pain! However I stayed persistent and just felt with the pain and sores I would get from time to time. Now here I am with top and bottom dentures and never use adhesives or anything to keep them in my mouth, I am able to eat literally anything with no pain and no dislodging of my bottom or top denture. Some examples of difficult food I can eat is corn right on the cob, steak, nuts, and everything else I’ve tried eating. I have not found anything I can’t eat or chew like normal. I do know they make gum for people with dentures but I’ve never used that and chew regular gum and it never dislodges my dentures. Hopefully someone can learn from my experience and just know that even after getting 16 teeth pulled in one day I had almost no pain or swelling and no bruising. The feeling of feeling like you’ll never be able to eat normal again goes away after some time. Now days I am working on getting implants like the all on 4 because yes sometimes when I sneeze they almost come flying out of my mouth! But that’s only when I forget I even have dentures.

This helps me! I have my top teeth but no molars on the bottom and about to lose 2 more so I just met with a dentist about my options. Dentures seem like trouble but your story helps. Im 3 years into my full set of dentures, no implants. Can eat anything just fine, and haven't used adhesives after the first year. After your all healed up, and in your permanent set, and your dentures properly fit, you'll be amazed how fast and well your body adapts and it's practically like normal. And if you suffered years of pain and bad teeth, it's the best feeling in the world.

Yep have had mine 8years never used adhesive. They just are like stuck there I only take them.out to brush 2 times a day I sleep with mine on I think that helps the sunction stay

@jenchaney9753 I'm no expert, but I believe it's better for your gums to take them out to sleep. I take mine out to sleep, and for a few hours every night before bed. If it's a lazy day, and I'm just at home, I won't put them in for the day till I eat something. Dentures completely cover your gums, and don't think it's good for them to never get some air. When you have your teeth, your gums are always exposed. Like i said though, I'm no expert, I just read it's not healthy for gums to leave dentures in 24/7. Every now and then I do fall asleep with mine in.

I wear dentures and have no problem eating steak and other foods that you "can't" eat with them. I have learned many tricks to get the job done without losing adhesion or popping out. It's all a learning curve trying to eat food again once you get them typically takes at least 6 months to a year before you get used to it

​@@kyetes.866 Mouth ulcer ointment is a must! And definitely a product to adhere/cushion them on your gums as they can be tough and rub. You need to make sure you let the denture clinic know if they're not fitting properly as it will hurt if they don't. And importantly, at the start don't push yourself. If you can't wear them all day then don't. It will take time and that's ok ❤️ Good luck, they are amazing!

I had a huge crash back in 2017, 14 broken ribs; crushed sternum, collapsed both lungs, 3 vertebrae, brain bleeding. Coma for 5 days and ICU for 30, when I woke up in the helicopter for about 30 seconds I remember throwing up a ton of blood and in there was most of my upper teeth unfortunately… then they put something into my IV and I woke up 5 days later. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 anyways, I have too denture’s now, I use fixodent ultra, I can literally eat any food at all, it’s like I have the same teeth I did before. Yeah, my mom won’t get dentures because she’s so embarrassed and scared of that happening. She would love to have the implants but would never be able to afford such a thing. Why insurance won’t cover these is crazy. Something is wrong when seniors working since they were 16, can’t afford dental care. In Turkey it costs £2000 for full mouth of implants. The hotels are really cheap, and classy. Loads of people in the UK go there, including famous models, it really is world class for dentistry. A lot of there tourism comes from people going there for dental work. I live in the UK, and it is the option that most people take.

let me; a child of two dentists, explain this to you: this is called Dentures. its like prosthesis teeth. normally, dentists uses other teeth and your chin bones to stick the prosthesis tooth in your mouth. but when you lack teeth, and the bone structure in your mouth, then Dentists give you this. its a Full mouth 14 set prosthesis that is designed to stick into your mouth. but because you have no bone, the prosthesis has a hard time sticking in the place it should be. the sticky stuff is a gel-like thing that makes sticking dentures easier. but they are not strong so that you can take it out of your mouth.

I have this problem. I am only 30 years old and have major problems with most of my teeth, or used to be teeth. I've always brushed twice a day and don't eat to much sugar but I was born 12 weeks premature and the medication they put me on back then ruined my teeth. I've always had bad teeth even baby teeth. Not all dentures need "goop" my husband was blessed with full top and bottom dentures from dental artist Arian Deutsch and he can eat steak with no goo. I emplore all dentists to check out his work and even take one of his clinics (if local to Arizona). What he is doing is life changing for people! Natural looking no goop needed dentures. He has gorgeous implantables too. An absolute artist!

They are seriously works of art. He adds character to the teeth (per patient preference) so the teeth look hyper realistic. My husband was concerned his dentures would be obvious, but they look more realistic than his real teeth did! I probably sound like his hype man, but seriously my husband's self esteem shot through the roof after he got his teeth. I will shout this man's with out any chance I get! LOL it was seriously life changing.

Ya I lost ALL my teeth at 26 years old due to not wearing a proper helmet in a skiidooing accident 💔😭😭 My denturist (here in British Columbia Canada) made my dentures as pretty much exact replicas of my original teeth which were absolutely perfect minus the soft tooth enamel I inherited from my maternal side. I'm so thankful for that!! But I can't use the goop cause I have extremely bad gag reflexes 😤😱 I get a little bit of food up in them, but for the most part they are in pretty good even though they are now over due for a new set! I think your right when you say it can depend on a great denturist 😊

A lot of people have bad teeth at a young age whether it’s because of a genetic condition or disposition or because of outside physical factors. Five years ago when I was 31, I had 18 teeth pulled in one sitting. I started with immediate (temporary) dentures and moved to permanent (regular) dentures after a bit over one year of healing. I can eat anything from nuts, to ice (yes, yes, I know), to corn on the cob, to steak. I do not use adhesive. I do not use sea bond strips. I was told by my dentist that I was her poster child for how you are supposed to heal, for how you are supposed to learn to speak, etc. I am very pale so I was able to get the whitest shade without looking like I got an unnaturally bleached white shade. I had my canines slightly longer/with character because I wanted them to look more natural. I get told regularly "I had no idea you have dentures." Like, yeah... that is my goal, a lot of money was spent for them to NOT look like dentures lol. I remember my grandfather had dentures and always had to eat soft foods and I was like absolutely not, that life is not for me lol.

My Mum had full dentures from 20 to 81. I never knew until I was a teenager. She never lisped, you never saw her without them in place, she only took them out to clean them and put the straight back. She ate steak and apples, and when she passed , they were still in place.

When I was little and lived with my grandma I ran out of toothpaste and she told me to go to her bathroom and use hers....I grabbed the tube I thought was a fun pink toothpaste with a chalky taste and within minutes my mouth was stuck shut and she couldn't stop laughing. Not ‘nasty’ probably what she could afford at the time. I have veneers because I worked my arse off for em! I suffered irreversible damage to my natural teeth as a child because I was sick. The medicines caused me to have discoloured teeth with pigmented spots. I got veneers but not everyone can get them. Be kinder. I didn’t smile for years because I was so self conscious it’s awful hearing ‘nasty’ doing what she would have to do. Especially from a dentist.

I work at dentist office. And we r seeing lots of younger patients losing teeth and needing dentures. About 95% would love implants, but they are really expensive and a lot of insurance ‘s won’t cover them bc they are considered cosmetic. It’s sad.

My insurance will cover them at 100% but only up to my annual max of $1500. When I was a kid we were poor and so I didn’t get the braces I needed to fix my bad bite and as I got older, all of my first molars cracked. 3 of them were extracted because I couldn’t afford crowns at the time. By the time my last one cracked I had better insurance and was able to get a crown on that one. I’m 40 now and finally have braces and will get implants to replace those 3 missing molars once I’m done, but damn, they don’t make it easy.

Bone dissolves due to atrophy. Atrophy is caused by lack of use. Literally "use it or lose it". The atrophy is also compounded by the many muscles of the face and mouth, including the tongue, that work to erode and reshape the mouth.
