To me, comfort in my feet is the most important, even on special/fancy occasions. Nothing ruins a good time like feeling your feet sore or tired. You stop caring about the concert, the dinner or the conversation... all you can think is "I can't wait to kick these shoes off!"

I have a shoe-sizing tip. I think it is good to try on shoes with normal socks, not just the disposable nylon ones. (I'm referring to shoes that go with socks, not sandals.) One time, I bought a pair of boots that I had tried on with the nylon socks, but when I wore them with regular socks, they were too small. Hope this helps someone.

If your boots were leather and not synthetic lined or made, you can have them stretched out to accommodate a midweight sock. You can have it done at a cobbler's but what I have done in the past, is wet the leather thoroughly and tightly pack the shoe or boot with newspaper. It's much better than not being able to wear the boot at all. 🌱

Good advice! I’m only 5’1” and was always encouraged to wear taller heels to make me taller. I’m glad I didn’t listen and chose shoes that were comfortable with low heels. It saved me from foot and back problems as I’ve aged.

I always thought the bigger the foot, the higher the heel no matter the height of the person. I was a gymnast, so my growth was stunted. I’m 5’5” and a size 9! Everyone else in my family (including my 12 year old niece!) is tall except me. I always wore 3.75 to 4.5 inches. When I was super young I could go with the 5in (no platform, I dislike platform shows so much), but that’s about as high as I could go.

A very sensible video! I worked in several different shoe shops when I was a teen, so I really got to see what happened to people’s feet when they wore different shoes. For people with small but also very narrow feet and heels, my best tip is to always look for something closed at the ankle, like a bootie or a pair of strappy sandals. When I try to wear pumps, mules or ballet flats, the uncomfortable position I have to bend my feet in just to try to keep them from slipping off will cause unbearable foot pain. Ankle straps are often advised against for petites because they cut us visually, but they also help keep shoes on, so that's a win to me! I also recommend looking into those ball-of-foot sticky clear insoles, which can help keep pumps or other heels in place and provide some cushioning and support.
@ursulamelia71363 жыл бұрын
I just tried that and got to 1.2 inches. That’s bang on regarding my real life shoe heel experience and shows that people with similar small foot lengths often wear heels that are far too high! Amazing video! I just bought a couple pairs of shoes from a small local shop, they make handmade real leather orthopedic shoes so walking in them is really easy. The design is a little on the classic and round toe side ( I wish they were pointy but I assume that would have made them uncomfortable) and the leather is really good! I just went and measured my feet and shoes according to your instructions and they matched! I have a large feet, about size 41 ( 10.5 US) so there are not many good options that are both comfortable and nice. This was really helpful! I have rather large feet that are extremely flat, which makes heels just as uncomfortable for me as it sounds like they are for you, so flats are my friend! I’d love to hear your advice on finding nice shoes that are still good to walk long distances in. I can’t drive, so I often walk several miles, and can’t usually do that in my “pretty shoes”, so I end up wearing sneakers and dress to go with those because I don’t want to carry my other shoes, and often don’t have anywhere to put my sneakers at my destination, anyway. Your insight would be greatly appreciated!

It might be worth looking into Dansko clogs. My podiatrist recommended them when I went in for plantar fasciitis. They are expensive, but I finally found a cheap pair and I wore them to death. @@catherinescorner716 Check out Ecco. They have wonderful shoes, lots of different styles. Most are really well cushioned so very comfortable to walk on for hours, even the non-sneaker styles. For this moment, I love their flexure runner line. Supersoft leather uppers in minimalistic design varying from casual to sneaker. Really thick foam removable insoles for maximum comfort, very bendable soles and lightweight. Some even leather lined which keeps your feet cool, feel great on bare feet in summer. Come in many colors and different types, but all feel like walking on air. And many on sale at the change of season. Thank you, Audrey, for such an easy and informative video! :) I twisted my ankle back in November of last year which has left me (for now) with a drop foot. I end up walking toe to heel instead of heel to toe. I have found that filling in the gap of wear my heel won't touch down with a shoe/boot/etc that has a bit of a heel makes all the difference in the ease of walking for me! My chiropractor and physio were both astonished, but agreed that they could see a difference with how I am now able to better get around! :) Shannon.

Whereas I've had others that were taller I wore with no problem. If your shoes are uncomfortable you're not going to be able to move properly, which really distracts from your overall appearance... never mind the comfort factor!

A good shoe store will offer professional measurements and recommendations. Also, the quality of the shoe makes a huge difference in the fit and feel -- my beautiful Spanish, Brazilian, and Italian leather stilettos are comfortable enough to run in (well, almost) and wear all day vs cheaply made budget shoes that are made by cutting corners (seams and correct lengths) so a larger size might be needed (or just don't buy them). I have great flats and medium heels, but my high heels are often the most comfortable. Investing in quality shoes, as you have said in previous videos, is important. For sports, it's really important to work with a professional salesperson, even a podiatrist, to find the best fit for your personal size and activity style.

@TH-eb5ro3 жыл бұрын
Shoes should come with a foot health rating. Many women in their 30s have foot surgery and while we may do okay in our youth the results of the damage shows up as we age. Many foot deformities and knee, hip problems are not from aging but from the shoes, we wore in our youth. This is a good place to start.
