The ouija board answers the questions you ask it, it doesn't randomly say 4 as far as I know, but it could've interpreted what you or your teammates were saying around it as you speaking to it and answered without you noticing. Fair warning though, using the ouija board makes your sanity take a huge dump which makes you more prone to hunts. Best of luck ADVICE ANDY, ROLLING OUT ♿

Cross is just a 6 Meter Protective Bubble to not allow it to materialize to attack and must be placed, holding it apparently doesn't work (allegedly), so closing the room is suggested or bringing two if the room is bigger than 6 meters. If it goes outside the bubble it can spawn outside to attack, only hiding works and lastly smudge sticks cancels its attack when its already summoned and hunting for only 5 seconds after that it will proceed to continue its attack, so its used as a last second protection simply to allow you to hide.
