well, not many people were expecting that. but if we learned anything about Ding last time round, it was that he can handle pressure
@tonyb9735
@tonyb9735 3 күн бұрын
Not really, no. What we actually learned was that he can handle pressure better than Nepo, but we already knew that Nepo collapses under pressure. Nonetheless, a great start for Ding, that will have done wonders for his confidence, which will hopefully make for an exciting match. Let's not get carried away, though, this was one game and there's a long, long way to go.
@-yeme-

@@tonyb9735 yeah ok, re watch the final game and tell me that Ding didn't have balls of steel to go for the win in the first place and then pull it off.
@tonyb9735
@tonyb9735 3 күн бұрын
@@-yeme- I'm agreeing that he had sterner balls than Nepo ... but that's all you can conclude from that match ..... and we already knew that Nepo has balls of fluffy marshmallow. If his balls were so steely, why has he been virtually unable to win a game sine he won the title? I am not a Ding hater, but neither am I a fanboy. I look forward to him playing well, I hope they both do, and make an exciting spectacle. Let's see how Ding fares in this match, it may answer the question as to his testicular fortitude.

Ding played like a demi god. I am beginning to think he downplayed his form all year to spring to life. The dragon has been awoken. A 1-0 lead is not quite terminal but against a draw making specialist like Ding, Gukesh has got quite an uphill struggle.

Hoping, badly, that it doesn't immediately swing back in Gukesh's favor in game two. After seeing Ding get written off - sometimes quite condescendingly - in the lead-up to this championship, I want his good vibes to continue for at least a little longer. In fact, I have to say it would be pretty satisfying to see a Ding rout. I don't think that's going to happen, but it would make for a pretty good story.

Otherwise we'd have had another boring one sided thrashing dished out to Nepo before this one. Instead we got Ding's classic win in the last seconds of the rapid tie break and now maybe another great match on the cards. Thanks Magnus!
