This mechanic has always been very odd to me It almost actually rewards you for qualifying poorly, Because any cars you overtake gain you confidence But if you start up high because of X reason, and start getting overtaken by faster cars... you end up then just getting overtaken by cars you should be beating because your 89 rated driver is driving like an 80 rated driver

The way I combated this in F1 23 was to rely solely on tyre advantage alone, always and rely solely on pumping up the confidence as much as you can by saving tyres (same as you do) and then pumping out some overtakes. You really can micromanage this a little better I think. One important thing to keep an eye on is overtaking and defending levels, Honestly keeping them on the lowest has always been the best for confidence and that's all that matters in the race More confidence = better tyre life and better pace

i think they should change it so if your driver gets overtaken by somebody in a faster car they don't lose much confidence, but if they get overtaken by a slower car they lose a larger amount

Also this rewards designing cars with more top speed and DRS efficiency, once I got that, my drivers perform much better as they can defend pretty much every attack at most tracks

All this mechanic needs is a multiplier based off your position compared to expected position (with taking pit stops/lap count into account). If you're below your expected position you will lose more for a failed overtake and losing positions but if your further ahead compared to where you should be you'll gain more for an overtake and lose less for being overtaken

Jarno you should have a look at the R&D chart for f1 Manager - Aarava uses it in his videos and I think its kinda cool

The engine mode has a huge impact on pace, I started my team same as you, made it as hard as possible, I’m in season 2 at zandvoort currently p4 in constructors doing Quali with Albon 83 rated and bearman 78 rated and every race qualifying like p5 - 8 and finishing races like p4 with albon and maybe p8 to 10 with bearman - I tried the under fuel you run to see impact and I lost seconds a lap in some cases, I find it more effective to regular jump from push until I overheat and only drop to low to cool, keeps fuel balanced and if you want to gain back from say a negative 2kg mid fuel mode works well for it over a stint, also you really really have to upgrade the car right, for example high bump to front airflow with the front wing as well as low corner pace works well but as it increases the flow over your side pods, hit that with a fat mid airflow upgrade and engine cooling, follow your rear wing with your fat DRS upgrade it gets a big boost from the airflow upgrades from the other 2 as the airflow over your wings etc has been improved, works the same way with all downforce upgrades on the floor and chassis, the hard mode for car development is quite good if every part is designed with a purpose to improve another area of the car

They need to rework the confidence bar to b based on there lap times fast lap times means high confidence and low confidence if they pace is weak seems like that would work a lot better.. an on the subject the mentality stuff should b based off your race results in stead of every1 hateing each other soon as you create your team.. jus my opinion on wat I think could easily fix the game
